So, in the usual scheme of Arashi color-coding, purple = Matsujun and green = Aiba, right?  But in all of D no Arashi, G no Arashi, and Arashi no Shukudai-kun, if you look at the text that appears when they speak, Aiba's is purple while Matsujun's is green.  Does anyone know if there is a reason behind this?  Or are they just playing with our heads?

I don't really know, but right now I always notice Jun's green while Aiba's purple.
I guess they just switched...?
I don't think there's any real reason behind it..

the usual colours we know are from Mago-mago Arashi, i guess.. yeah, i realise for those other variety shows matsujun is green and aiba is pink. (yeah, it's pink!!)
1. maybe because aiba looks more air-headed thus they think he suits pink better?
2. or maybe cos purple and blue look almost the same (to some people) so the staff change purple to pink but thought dat they shouldnt give pink to matsujun. (he might kill them, no? ngahaha)
3. or maybe the editing staff just wanna mess up with our heads XD Image (http://www.addemoticons.com/emoticon/crazy/AddEmoticons00513.gif)

The colors you're familiar with weren't decided until the ARASHIC concert, which was in 2006. Up until then, the group really didn't have "official" colors - Ohno was almost always blue, Sho almost always red, and Nino was usually some shade of yellow/orange, Jun was usually green, and Aiba was almost always pink. After the ARASHIC tour, they've pretty much stuck to Ohno - Blue, Sho - Red, Aiba - Green, Jun - Purple, Nino - Yellow, but it's always possible they change things up again in the future.

the aiba = green and jun = purple colors were from mago2 and the matsujun = green and aiba = pink started way back in the D no Arashi days, which is like waaaaaay before the aiba = green and jun = purple..

To add to this, now that I re-read your post - D and G no Arashi mostly aired before 2006, and Arashi no Shukudai-kun is run by the same production staff. They probably didn't adjust the font colors to match the concert colors because they've been working with the same colors for years.

Although the HIG outfits with the epic afros were in the "official" colors they've got now, lol.

look at the Himitsu no Arashi-chan colours. at first they were the "official" colours, but then when the format changed, so did the colours.

if that isn't messing with our heads i don't know what is.

Think about it this way:

Arashi are signed to three different channels. The channel that had MMA and now VS Arashi seems to have decided A=green, M=purple, N=yellow, O=blue, Sho=red. The most recent application of this system on this channel was seen when they used to do MDA on VS Arashi (the color of their platforms.) The channel that owns C/D/G no Arashi and now Shukudai-kun has decided A=purple/pink, M=green, N=yellow/orange, O=blue, Sho=red. This is seen in the subtitle text colors and was clear during G no Arashi in their uniforms. The channel that owns Himitsu no Arashi-chan seems to have its own color system I'm not familiar with.

Now to make things even more interesting. Since starting out as a fan of SMAP I've noticed that concert staff will assign band members a distinct color code for both earphones and microphones. If you look carefully, the system that was laid out for Arashi has barely changed, if at all, since their earliest concerts. A=green, M=purple, N=blue, O=pink, S=orange.

However, I guess we've taken the MMA/VSA colors as now being the official ones.

Most of us Arashi fans on LJ take A=green, M=purple, N=yellow, O=blue, S=red as being the official colors, and these translate throughout the fandom anyway.
