Smile - Matsumoto Jun new drama!

I'm so happy to annouce (thank you so much yuckie_chan <3 ) the long waited new drama with my beloved Ichiban Matsumoto Jun as the lead actor!

The title is "Smile" and it's a story about a guy half Filipinos, half Japanese named Bito that meet and fall in love with an aphonic girl, Hana, played by Aragaki Yui (yes *_* I love her XD).

It will premiere in April, TBS Friday 10 pm (the time slot of love <3 A lot of wonderful dramas were aired in that time slot... Maou, Ryuusei no Kizuna, Utahime, Kisarazu Cat's Eye, Tiger and Dragon are only some of them)

The screenwriter will be the gorgeous Satake Mikio, that great man behind the script of Utahime and Hana Yori Dango.



(I have the feeling about a lot of mistakes in this post... but I'm so happy I can't even write in my mother tongue language at the moment so please wait for my recover, I'm so so so happy ;_;
I can also anticipate also Tokyo Friend Park, a lot of promotion, a new Arashi single, a lot of coverage on magazines... Matsumoto fans it will be a wonderful spring for us ♥ )

Thanks for the info! Sounds really interesting! Aragaki Yui is such a cutie, too. Not sure about Jun passing for half-Filipino though XD

In terms of appearance, Jun can pass off as a Filipino or half-Filipino.
The Philippines are in the Southeast Asia (tropical) so majority are brown-skinned but it is a very diverse population with people from different races (American, Malay, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, and there is also a community with really dark-skinned people similar to Africans called the Aetas) and intermarriage happens so there are more variety in appearance.

I'm from the Philippines and knowing about MatsuJun playing a "Japino" (term used here for Japanese-Filipino people) role is such an honor for me. I'm looking forward to watching the drama :D

Congrats to Jun! Though I'm sure surprised they didn't cast Hayami Mokomichi as the half-Filipino character since he is one. Shrugs. I guess the Friday 10PM time-slot belongs to Arashi. Good luck Jun!

OMG! MatsuJun plays as a JaPinoy? *my gahd* and a friend of mine which is a MatsuJun fan *and she's beside me right now, flailing* and she keeps on laughing on the name 'Bito'. She has a friend and she calls him 'Bito'. Rofl.

only because he is one of them? not at all. We don't know the reason of the choice because informations about this project are poor for now so for now we can't feel why is important his nationality. (I can guess he can have some problems because he is an half but I don't know...)

Jun can definitely pass for a Filipino or half-Filipino, I think.
What I'm focusing on is why it is explicitly mentioned in the drama information, considering how little information was given.
Will they emphasize the hardships when it comes to being half-Filipino and trying to fit in a Japanese society? How will they go about it?
Will he speak in Filipino, at least a few phrases? He spoke some Italian in Bambino! and some people commented he spoke some German in Kimi wa Pet.
Will they spend some time filming in the Philippines and if so, where? Sort of like looking for his mother or father? Or maybe getting to know his other culture?
So many possibilities.

but then jun doesn't look like your typical japanese man, either so it's totally feasible. i've seen filipino-italians who look like him.
