fangirls in new zealand
Feb. 23rd, 2009 11:37 amI was just wondering if anyone else here is going to be affected by Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act that may take into effect in New Zealand in March.
Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act assumes Guilt Upon Accusation and forces the termination of internet connections and websites without evidence, without a fair trial, and without punishment for any false accusations of copyright infringement. We should speak out against injustices like Guilt Upon Accusation being done in the name of artists and protecting creativity.
For those who are interested here's the site that explains more about Section 92. creativefreedom.org.nz/goals.html
I'm not an artist or anything, I just want to be able to access and download videos of Arashi and the j-dramas I watch. My friend told me last week that a close friend of hers has already had his internet disconnected for minor downloading.
This sucks ass.
I'm really sorry for using this comm for this post, if it's not allowed. I just want to know if there are others affected and what they think of it/going to do about it.

Date: 2009-02-23 12:46 am (UTC)Maybe there's a way around it? Like maybe someone from another country who has downloaded stuff could email it to the people in New Zealand? I dunno D:

Can't they see there are more complaints about this already even before it's begun? Sigh... thanks for the alert. I don't think many people will want to put up for this for long though once it's up in action...

Date: 2009-02-25 11:02 pm (UTC)it is appalling how it's gone this far. however i heard yesterday that they've postponed the law again!!! (i at least have another month of downloading) apparently the MPs that were all for this law have been backing out. they must not want to be involved in this coz it's so controversial and they must be loosing popularity points as well.
i really hope it doesn't pass.
please keep up the hope for us kiwis!
