8. No XD
9. No (I'll probably be the only one to say so XDD)

Date: 2009-03-07 05:18 pm (UTC)1. Other: It depends on the kind of music. For pop I mostly prefer Japanese or any other language that I don't understand, for classic it doesn't matter, for rock, folk, indie and most other kinds of music I mostly prefer German, English or any other language that I understand.
2. rock, pop, classic, other: indie, folk
3. Again, it depends. For pop and classic, it's melody and voice; for everything else it's text and voice.
4. For pop it's Arashi, hands down. I have yet to meet another pop band who gives me the same sort of sheer bubby, happy, uplifting feelings when I listen to them. ^-^ (Someone once wrote here that they should prescribe Arashi for depression, since the rainbows alone would be able to cure people; and that definitely is the reason why I love them so much.) Also, for some weird reason Arashi is the only pop band I've never had any problems listening to after a prolonged exposure to opera. (Which is amazing, because usually I can't stand listening to pop music for at least a few hours after I've listened to opera for a longer time, because the pop sounds so loud and inelegant to my ears after the intricacies of operatic/other classical pieces. But I never have that problem with Arashi.)
For everything else: Vienna Teng is an amazing artist I really love, who has a stunningly beautiful voice and great lyrics, and I'm currently on another Schubert folk song binge, but I don't have a particular singer I follow in classic. ^-^ Apart from that, old favourites like Michelle Shocked, Melanie (folk singer, not the Schlager singer ;P), Bob Dylan
5. Much
6. internet, TV, friends/family, other: radio
7. CDs/DVDs, Concert tickets. I create flaily posts about my favourites occasionally. ^-^ (And, well, fanfiction, but that doesn't really count as "support", I guess. ;P)
8. Yes, to my friends and family. (I assume you mean "diffuse" in the sense of the German word "verteilen"?)
9. Yes, definitely! (Though more for Vienna than for Arashi, because independent artists always have it more difficult than mainstream ones. ^-^)

Date: 2009-03-07 05:19 pm (UTC)2. Rock (in all of its colors and facettes, so that also means Metal, J-Rock and Punk) and Pop.
3. With Japanese music, it's mostly the melody and the voice, with English and German the lyrics also play an important role.
4. Well, at the moment nothing can beat Arashi for me, because their songs just really make me happy and I get all hyped up from them and the five of them are just adorable and dorky and... well, you probably know that all yourself, don't you? XD
I've also been a fan of Die Ärzte for several years now, for mostly the same reasons, and because their weird sense of humor makes me laugh out loud at their lyrics.
I listen a lot to Wir Sind Helden and Miyavi as well. Miyavi because I LOVE his acoustic guitar songs and Wir Sind Helden because they write some of the most witty lyrics in the history of ever (and I like Judith's voice).
5. Much. I don't leave the house without my mp3-player.
6. Internet and the radio.
7. I buy their CDs, I go to concerts and buy concert merchandise (mostly T-Shirts and Posters).
8: er... diffuse? XD I don't quite understand that word in this context, actually (not English native speaker)... ^^" Could you explain, please?
9: of course, no concerts without attention, right? XD

Date: 2009-03-07 05:19 pm (UTC)2. Pop
3. Melody
4. Arashi because they stay true to their original sound, but they make it sound so different so it sounds like you get variety when you listen to them. And then my favorite is Sho because, not only is he the cutest, but he has some great solos that make the song have an entirely new feel.
5. I dedicate anywhere from five-six hours to music each day.
6. Internet mostly, and several of my friends. Sometimes television.
7. Almost none. / Nothing... I'm a mooch XD
8. Yep!
9. Yes! We need more Arashi and HSJ here!

Date: 2009-03-07 07:19 pm (UTC)English. I like to sing along, and that's easier to do in my native language. I really love Japanese music, too; the Japanese language sounds really lovely when spoken and sung.
2. Favorite genre?
It's impossible to choose. I go through musical "phases" where I'll listen to one genre almost exclusively, then drop it and pick up another one a few months later. My Jpop obsession has been going strong for a year now, so that's definitely in my top three. I also love Celtic music. If neither of those genres spark my fancy, though, I always turn on Classic Rock.
3. what are important facts in the music you hear?
Foremost is melody. If it doesn't have a good melody, I probably won't like it. After that is voice; I love unusual voices and beautiful voices. That's why I tend to prefer indie pop, country or folk music, where you don't get the generic "pop star" voice. Instrumentation and melody, in my opinion, are linked; instrumentation is the key to a great melody. Appearance of the singer or band is really not that important to me. It's a nice perk, but not a pre-requisite.
4. Who is you favourite band/ music group/ singer? Why do you like them?
A) Arashi - I love their music, but more importantly, I love their personalities and their apparent closeness outside of the recording booth. They look like they genuinely enjoy each other and their fans respond to that.
B) Josh Groban - A tremendous vocal talent, and a really nice guy, too. I've seen him in concert three times, and every single time he makes you feel like that concert crowd is his favorite. He's also absolutely hysterical and doesn't mind making fun of himself, which is something he shares with Arashi. ;)
5. how much attention do you pay music?
A LOT. But not by listening to the radio or watching music television. I love listening to music, and I'm more likely to spend my evenings listening to music than watching TV, but I'm really not a fan of most American Top 40 artists or songs. They all sound the same and it's SO BORING.
6. where do you get your information about music?
Primarily internet, friends, and other pop culture (particularly soundtracks from TV shows and film). I also like to listen to the sample CDs some stores put out on display for you to listen to. I've bought a lot of music that you'd never hear on the radio by listening to those sample CDs.
7. how much support do you give your favourite bands/singers?
I buy:
I buy CDs a lot, but I'm getting more into buying individual MP3 downloads lately. They save storage space! The cost of concert admission is pretty expensive these days, so I generally can't go unless it's someone I REALLY love (like Josh Groban!). I buy concert goods when i DO go to concerts, though, as a way to preserve the memory.
I create:
I don't really create anything to support my favorite artists, except word-of-mouth. I like to try and get my friends and family to listen to my favorite groups to get them hooked, too. I've gotten my sister absolutely ADDICTED to Jpop.
8. do you try to diffuse your favourite music?
I guess that depends on what you mean by diffuse? If you mean spread it around, then absolutely. I'm a big fan of encouraging friends, family, and co-workers to try listening to music they might not ever encounter otherwise.
9. do you want your favourite bands/singer to get more attention in your home country?
To be honest? No. Let me clarify. For example, I would love for Arashi to be more well-known here in America, but I NEVER want them to become huge over here. Once that happens, they'd just become another pop group, beholden to the whims of the masses. Is that how they are in japan? Possibly. Quite probably, actually, though I can't say for certain since I've never lived there. But I prefer to know that those American fans who know Arashi love them because of who they are and what they do and don't want them to change. That's how I feel, and I'm scared that greater publicity for them -- or any artist -- over here would ruin that fragile bubble of fandom.

2. which genre is your favourite one?
Rop, Rock, Visual Kei and Oshare Kei. I like variety :)
I will listen to all kinds of music, but I like songs with lots of music going on un the back (not just a beat or a single melody).
3. what are important facts in the music, you hear?
Different things catch my attention at different times. Sometimes lyrics are most important if I'm trying to sing out some stress :). Other times, I'm really into the melody and sounds of the instruments (such as when a keyboard stick out in the middle of the song). Appearence of the band is also important for me (will explain below), while actual singing ability is not. Really lots of people are great singers, but there will always be someone that sings better than them.. I will not just drop them then!
4. which one is you favourite band/ music group/ singer? Why do you like them? I have to pick three (even though I really listen to about 30 artists on a regular basis).
#1 - Arashi - Arashi doesn't really write their own lyrics/music however they do their job as singers/entertainers 150% and I can't help but admire them. I really fall into their songs that encourage hope, dreams, and fulfilling your dreams. Arashi is addicting because of all their variety shows and backstage footage etc. that showcase their personalities, and after being a fan for 10 years and seeing their progress, I feel like "they work hard, so they can tell me to do so too, and I will!" If that makes sense haha. Also alot of their music has super cathy melodies and I never tire of listening to them. They make me happy :)
#2 - Antic Cafe - I love their variety, they have a song for every mood I'm in and I love the mesh of their instruments. When I saw them live, I was amazed at the amount of talent they have and had never been so excited in life - I could feel the they really love what they're doing. Appearence is important for an Oshare Kei band, and I love how they're always trying out new looks. Antic Cafe encourages me no to do things half-assed!
#3 - For the rock part, One OK Rock. They have excellent lyrics (YumeYume being my fave), and are the best at persuading non-Japanese listeners to listen to Japanese music =P UMmm and Greeeen!!!
5. how much attention do you pay music?
- Much! I listen to my 80 gig ipod (almost full) ALLLLLL day at work, to and from in the car, and while I do homework... oh and while I shower. Really it's on all the time. Poor little ipod.
6. from where do you get your information about music?
- TV (MusicStation, MTV (japan), Utaband and the like)
- Internet (Back when I first started listening to Japanese music, I could only buy it through friends who sometimes went to Japan so I really only listened to 10 CD's over and over for years. Then finally, wonderful people started appearing on the internet and shared well-known and indies bands, and I couldn't be more thankful for thier influence.
7. how much support do you give your favourite bands/singers? I buy:
- CDs/DVDs
- Concert goods
- Concert tickets
- When I lived in Japan, I bought everything! Now, only select items (Arashi's calender for one)
I create:
- Nothing.. too busy but I intend to write fanletters. Need to practice Japanese though.
8. do you try to diffuse your favourite music?
- Yes, there's so much out there :)
9. do you want that your favourite bands/singer get more attention in your homecountry?
- Not really, I'll come to them :)
