I'm using Macs only at school, but I think iMovie can do that.

hi there. there's imovie or final cut pro/express but i find mpeg stream clip simpler and it works perfectly on my mac. it does simple trims and editing out of parts and exporting to different file types. :)

I'm using Mac and am thinking of editing something, too
But my IMovie doesn't support avi file, it said I ahve to convert it to .mov first
but I haven't had time to find the progrmae to convert yet.

I'm sorry this doesn't much, Hope yours works :)

I'm not positive if this works on Macs or not - I double-checked the site and didn't see anything that specified which OS it works on, but I use Solveig's AVI Trimmer for making clips.

Sorry if this doesn't work for you~

iMovie should support AVI. Seeing as I've been editing AVIs in it for years... Unless the new version is worse than I thought. iMovie supports/converts AVI, MOV, MP4, DV, and a pile of other formats. It DOES NOT support/convert WMV or MKV.

Otherwise, if your school has QuickTime Pro, that works well for just trimming things. You just have to utilize the "Save as..." or "Export" option. :D

Of course, Final Cut is also good, but it's a little harder to use if you don't know what you're doing.
