Buying Arashi Goods Around the World
Jun. 23rd, 2009 09:50 amI'm sure everyone has noticed the influx of posts over the past few days asking where to buy Arashi/JE goods in different places. The maintainers of The Arashidex would like to expand the overseas section of our buyer's guide to help out traveling Arashi fans, and hopefully to help cut down on some of the posts that ask the same questions over and over.
So if you know of a place to buy Arashi goods in any country outside of Japan and not online please reply to this entry! It's okay to mention official and unofficial goods, we'll have sections for both on the site.

SYDNEY
Date: 2009-06-23 03:19 pm (UTC)(wait, lol am I meant to post this here? Well anyhoo, here I go)
In the main Central Business District/Chinatown:
1) Kinokuniya - As you probably may know, it's the best place to go to if you want Official Merchandise. They sell the DVDs and the Photobooks etc. They also have a vast collection of magazines (any you can think of), and the idol magazines (Duet, Potato, Myojo etc.) available for purchase. However be warned as each magazine, although about 500-800 yen in Japan, have really gone up in price lately to $20-$25 each in AUD.
Kinokuniya's address: 2nd Level, The Galeries Victoria, 500 George St, Sydney.
2) Rong Bao Tang - This is an excellent proprietor for most Asian goods. They sell Japanese/Taiwanese/Chinese/Korean. Here you can find most of the member dramas and their major singles/albums. I do remember seeing their Dream "A" Live Album in there for approximately $36AUD. But if you want Dramas and movies, I suggest you go here. They're usually on sale and have English subs (but it usually depends, the quality isn't always very good) and they're also not that pricey (I bought the whole season of Maou over there for $18 and saw the HYDFinal DVD for around $15-$20).
50 Dixon St, Sydney NSW 2000
3)Top 10 Sound and Movie Shop - This place is good for DVD sales. They have quite a good range of Japanese Dramas and Movies, it's just a matter of looking for them. You may or may not find any Arashi-related stuff here but I saw Bambino in there the other day, so they do tend to hold their Merchandise for a while. Shop 1, 741 George St, Haymarket 2000
4)Laser City - One of the oldest proprietors for Asian cinema and music in Sydney. They have a varied selection of cinema, but I can't guarantee any Arashi-related stuff in there. If one of the members has a movie or drama out, you may find it ending up in here as they do tend to stock the latest titles. Shop 16, Sussex Centre, 401 Sussex St, Haymarket 2000
That's about as far as I know for the CBD in Sydney. Anyone living around the area may also want to try the suburbs of Chatswood, Artarmon and Cabramatta renowned for their Asian population. (Although I do know that Chatswood and Artarmon have a greater Korean/Japanese population and there a good deal of Japanese/Korean stores in the area.) Hope this helps!

Date: 2009-06-23 04:46 pm (UTC)also to note, rong bao tang sells both the japanese and hong kong version of JE releases.
Re: SYDNEY
Date: 2009-06-23 05:03 pm (UTC)Good point about the HK versions though, forgot to mention that! Just as a side-note on the JE releases, they seem to be a fan of KAT-TUN in that store (concert DVD etc)... but that just may be me...

Date: 2009-06-23 03:49 pm (UTC)I know of a store in the front of the mall called Japan Video I think? I've only been in there once, but they sell dramas and movies with english subtitles. ((I don't usually shop there though because they are bootlegs and I'm not supporting the boys by buying there.)) However, some might not be as picky as I am.
Hope that helps!

Date: 2009-06-23 03:58 pm (UTC)Brussels, Belgium & Paris, France
Date: 2009-06-23 03:54 pm (UTC)1) The Japanese Library, just across the Japanese School of Brussels, outside the metro station Beaulieu, in Ixelles. It sells all the Idol magazines and some unofficial Arashi goods (I suspect the shop owner to be a bit of a fan, and the students of the school, too). You can also find other goods and furnitures, such as Hello Kitty and stuff like that. The magazines cost between 3 to 12 € depending on which mag it is (Only Star costs 7€ while Myojo costs 10-11€) and what date it is (they put the older ones on sale if they're more than one month old, and it goes down to 3, 4, 5€)
2) The Asian district, in the center of the city, near De Brouckère, where you can find all sorts of unofficial goods, most likely CDs. But there are all kinds of shops and you need to search and be lucky. (You can find official Ghibli goods, too.) Prices can vary, but be aware that it's imported, so it's going to be high.
3) There is a japanese district near Auderghem where you can find karaoke, food shops and even public japanese baths. Right near it is a japanese library where you can buy and borrow books. Among them are some magazines and (but this needs to be confirmed) official books.
More info will be added on this. I need to do some field research.
Paris, France
1) Junkundo, the japanese Library, in the 15th arrondissement (Japanese/Korean district), has a lot of official photobooks, DVDs, and CDs. They get new merchandise every thursday, so there are always new products. They also sell a lot of magazine, and store them. I was able to find Sho's act+ even though it was weeks after it was published. Prices can be high, because the taxes aren't always indicated, so be sure that you're ready to pay an average of 10 to 25€ for each good.
2) Still in the same district, there are a lot of shops selling mangas and other goods. They often sell CDs. I remember seeing some Arashi & NewS ones. There are a lot of shops to look around in. Prices differ from one shop to another.
3) Make sure to read

Date: 2009-06-23 07:27 pm (UTC)In Portland, if you go down to Beaverton, there's an Uwajimaya and smaller attached Kinokuniya. They don't keep much in stock in the way of magazines and CDs, but they will order things for you if you ask.
