I need a little help from all you knowledgable Arashi fans :D
You know our dear Matsumoto Jun is called Do-S right?
So, I was wondering, what does Do-S mean?
I think the S stands for Sadistic. But what does the Do mean?
Anyway, just tell me overall what does Do-S mean.
I really appreciate it.
Thanks ! :D

The Do is the way to pronounce the kanji that is used before S, and it means "very" xD

Do is not kanji, it is katakana.

Then wikipedia is a liar: "By now he has more or less lost the comedic image and has even gained the nickname DoS from the other members (S standing for 'Sadist' and Do means 'extreme' in Japanese Kanji)."

You won't get any answers by searching 'Do-S' on Google -.-

Yeah, I remember trying to google DoS in the early days and meeting with much fail. Even my beloved urbandictionary was fail. It was a sad day in my fandom life. :(

i know this is a place to ask arashi-related questions but it wouldn't hurt to try to look for answers yourself first before asking in the community. i mean googling something is fairly easy and this just makes you look lazy or worse, stupid.

questions that are fairly general and has extensive information on the web (as this one or the names of the arashi boys or whatever), google them first and then when you're stuck, ask for help.

and how do you know that this person didn't Google this already? This person may have had trouble entering the right search variables to find the answer. As stated above, entering Do-S into the search bar doesn't render any useful information.

Also, please don't sound like you are speaking for everyone when you say that "this just makes you look lazy or worse, stupid". This is NOT true.

It's really disgusting how some people attack 'newbies' here. If a certain question bothers you, just ignore it. There is no need to put someone down for wanting to know something.

Pfft. Why use Google when there's a place with 8000+ Arashi fan who can help? It's a part of what the communites are here for.

The nice thing about people asking questions like this is that other people might also learn something from it. I never thought of looking up the exact meaning of "Do-S", since it was enough for me to know that it had something to do with "sadist", but thanks to the OP I now have some interesting extra information. ^-^

Thank you! This is the comment that I want to make every time someone asks a question like this and gets that kind of response, but I always just sit at my computer feeling awkward and unable to phrase it properly and end up not saying anything at all!

I'm glad I could ...say what you wanted to say? ;P But seriously, "newbie questions" sometimes are "what everyone in fandom knows" - but sometimes they're also "what everyone in fandom assumes they know". ^^"
And in any case, even if it's the former, there's always a chance that there are also other people who're not that deep into fandom reading a post like this, apart from the OP, and for them any kind of information like that might be new too; so this kind of post isn't as superfluous as the commenter above tried to suggest.

Ok, i was curious about this whole mini-debate over "rude/not rude" and "lazy/not lazy" (because I know that I just happened to stumble across the whole "Do-S" thing when I was first looking up things on Arashi in my newbie days). So, being the scientist that I am, I decided to test it out. Just now I went up into my google searchbar, and I typed "Do-S Matsumoto Jun" **without the quotation marks--even**, and the very first entry was the English Wikipedia page. Under the link, **without even having to click on the page to open it up** it says ".... he has been called "DoS" ("extreme sadist") by his bandmates"
If you do click on it and read through the page, you reach the "Personal life and Personality" part where it elaborates a little, saying "Now known more for his frank nature and sharp tongue, he has been called "DoS" ("extreme sadist") by his bandmates"

So now that I've seen this, and how simple it was to come across, I have to understand the frustration that some people express over questions like this popping up. In less time than it took for "Nice na Kokoroiki" to play on my mp3 player, I had searched, pulled it up, and read through the entire page entry. Some may argue that it's difficult to know what terms to search for, and yes, most of the time it is, but in this case I simply took the subject, "Matsumoto Jun", and the adjective, "Do-S", and got exactly what I wanted in one second. I will let the results speak for themselves. Interpret as you like.

I can totally see what you are saying with how easy it is to find the answer to this question. However, my take on it is that even if it was simple to find, it really isn't necessary for someone to be rude to somebody for it. There are nicer ways to say to someone that maybe they should do research before posting a question. Although, it might 'frustrate' someone to come across a question like this, why can't they just ignore it and move on, it's not very hard to scroll the page down.

In my case, it frustrates me more to see people acting this way towards each other. Yes, this was a simple question and can easily be searched, but it really isn't necessary to "attack" the poster. This is an Arashi community, people should be able to freely ask questions and not get bombarded by messages telling them to 'USE GOOGLE". If the question bothers you, then just ignore it.

^_^

Actually, I think it stems mostly from his role as Doumyouji.

XDDDD; I think so.~
See, when Jun is DoS, he always laughs afterward. Because he is too sweet to be DoS for too long. 8'DDD
Now, when Nino is DoS...XD;

hmm, but according to my baby toma ;XD ... jun is DoS because he's shy... it's his way of telling people what to do because he's shy

Of course this doesn't stop him from laughing like a maniac while shooting paintballs at a yelping Nino. ;P

(I do believe he's generally a gentle person - but he probably does have a bit of a Do-S streak in him, just like Nino and Ohno do.)

I'm not sure of the when, or where, exactly. ^^" It's from around D no Arashi time, I think, and it seems to have been some kind of TV program? The relevant clip of it is here on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdDO1uxTi04). It's really funny. XD

Though the question has already been answered, perhaps you might still find this (http://arashi.fukanzen.net/group/dictionary/) helpful to you if you have any related questions.

Thanks A Bunch!

Thanks for all the fans who helped me on this. It's nice to know that this fandom are really supportive in helping each other.
PS: For all those who are asking, I DID try and search. Why else would I ask if I didnt knew the answer? But thanks for "assuming" I didnt. I might have forgotten I actually TRIED. HAH!
PPS: I really couldn't help it. When I saw the post about beng lazy and stupid, there was one thing I DEFINITELY have to say!
THANK YOU! HAH!
Thanks for your effort in even replying when you didnt even answer the question. Thanks for showing me that even people who call themselves "fans" are willing to let down other fans. (i will nvr understand why though) and thanks for proving it to me that you yourself are very "smart and is a nice" fan. You know, I wonder, if people like these keep giving let-down comments for even simple questions like these (and i dont even understand why this bothers you so much) then who would have the courage to ask any other questions in the future?
Oh dear. Now you've taken my time in just writing this. But thanks yeah? :D
