I was in Seoul today with my friend and I came across this in a CD store. It was the first thing you noticed as you walked in which was quite impressive.
I've always wondered exactly how popular is Arashi in Korea? I know that they do have a fanbase there but I always hear that Korean people just download and don't buy CDs nowadays, so is it really worth it for JE to spent all that money on promoting Arashi in Korea? Hmmmm just been really curious about this. And does anyone know how much Arashi's sales are in Korea?
Arashi CDs only started to be imported into Korea in 2006 (under the SM label). Shortly after, Arashi held their first concert in Korea. Someone told me that the reason J-Storm decided to license Arashi CDs in Korea was because the company noticed that it was getting alot of bulk orders of Arashi CDs from there. The Korean fans had been buying in bulk through mail-order and getting their presence noticed. So they amassed fans in Korea entirely through the internet with zero promotion there, I guess.
I just wanted to say, you know what amazes me? I've seen Arashi promoted in Korea and China and in all the examples I've seen the released song is in Arashi's native Japanese. Even when promoted on TV, the usual PV plays with (Chinese) subtitles. In fact, Arashi only change the language they sing in at international concerts. (Does that mean they would try to sing in English if they went to America or Europe?)
Why is this amazing you ask? Well Korean artists only sell really well here if they sing in Japanese. Interesting, ne? ;D
oooooh they have their own tarpaulin poster and below it are the CDs. Is Arashi the only on in the CD Store with a poster that big or there are other artists with their own sort of promotional poster with CDs?
