Date: 2009-07-27 07:55 pm (UTC)I was scraping around for food for a full week last week because I spent all my money on living costs.
As soon as my pay comes in, 70% of it goes to rent, health insurance, pension, and local taxes. That doesn't even include phone bill and food.
It's not lucky. It's hard work. :( Sometimes, it's life and death. Fans who don't live and work in Japan don't understand that.

Date: 2009-07-28 08:48 am (UTC)I came to Japan before I was a fan of Arashi. It's not Arashi's fault nor is it the fault of people like myself that people OUTSIDE Japan fall in love with Arashi. It is something which cannot be helped. Arashi are happy to have international fans but they don't know what to do because they are a Japanese band - they never expected to have fans who weren't Japanese. To them (as Japanese) it is hard to understand why people who cannot understand what they are singing and saying would be fans of theirs. For big American stars it is different because they are dubbed into Japanese and have Japanese subtitles when they come to Japan. There are no official English dubs or subtitles for Arashi (apart from Kiiroi Namida and now Yatterman) so it is hard for Japanese to understand why there would be international fans.
In Japan they do not like things which are not in Japanese, hence English is very difficult for them - they are reluctant to accept the unusual. Hence everything must be put into Japanese before they will accept it. It is not like the international fanbases (especially of anime) who prefer things in their original language. Hence Korean artists and dramas which do well here, must be turned into Japanese first. In China and Korea, Arashi songs are released in Japan, but here in Japan Korean bands like Tohoushinki can only release songs in Japanese before they sell.
With Arashi's Asian fanbase growing and Asian tours forming, Arashi decided they had to learn some Asian languages and culture before they could do a concert. However, they were very surprised when people were laughing at their jokes in Japanese before translation. To them they found it amazing that fans would learn Japanese just for them. Even though they have done Asian tours twice now, they still said these comments at the end of their second Asian tour.
In short, it is not the fans living in Japan who are lucky - it is Arashi who are lucky to have funs outside Japan.
Sorry I didn't mean to target you, I just needed to get that off my chest. *hugs*

Actually, I got offended, too, but everyone has his/her opinion, right?
I am glad that you able to share with me your honest opinion. I am fully accepting it.
I am AWARE and KNOW what you mean.
I have watch their tours, documentary videos and such especially their Jet Storm video (when they fly to 3 countries in 1 day for their upcoming Asia tour).
I know and aware that English is not Japan's 2nd language. They only used Japanese language except for business-related or going outside the country, of course they need to learn other languages, too.
Thank you again. I love reading others' opinions' about Arashi and their fans. =)
