I lived in Boston but I traveled down to NYC (Flushing & Chinatown) quite often. I was wondering if anyone knows any good and cheap places from Boston or NYC that I can get Arashi's Japanese edition CDs and also magazines like WinkUp, Duet and such? Thank you so much <3

I also thought I was the only fan here in Boston, lol. I'm beginning to think there are more but hiding somewhere. xD

Chinatown has very selective Japanese artists.. like Ayu, Namie, Koda Kumi (not much variety). Your best bet had to be Kinokuniya (have new Arashi Japanese edition CDs/DVDs and tons of mags) in 42nd street - Bryant Park. I hope that helps!

Kinokuniya or Asahiya in NYC. You can try Bookoff for used stuff, but it doesn't have too much for Arashi, I think.

Yeah, there is a Kinokuniya is NY, you can check that out. My advice: if there are any specific mags or CDs you wanna buy, order them over the phone ahead of time, before you go there so that when you go, you can just pick them up, because sometimes they run out of Arashi CDs. at least the one near where I live does. lol. :)

Porter Square in Boston/Cambridge has Japanese magazines available. I'm not sure about CDs, but I'll check when I stop by next week.

Do you mean Kotobukiya, the market? They closed down in May. :(

I'm from Boston! It's rare to find an Arashi fan here. I thought I was the only one. *___*

Unfortunately, I don't know of any places that sell their albums in Japanese. You might want to try Tokyo Kid in Harvard Square. I saw V6 albums there once so there might be a possibility of them selling Arashi ones? You're probably better off buying them in New York, though.

As for magazines, Kotobukiya is closed but I've heard of two places that might have them. There's a new Japanese market in Brookline Village and the replacement for Kotobukiya is in Medford. I know they're not in Boston but they're pretty close.

I hope I helped...in a way? ^_^;;

Boston fan here too!! Kotobukiya is going to be reopening under a different name in Medford square at some point. Maybe they will still have the magazines. I actaully just looked further up this post and the store is the Ebisuya one that is mentioned.

So confusing, all the Kotobukiya business.

I live in NYC, and I go to Kinokuniya all the time for magazines!
You can also find some ARASHI cd's upstairs even tho their collection isnt very big. Are you planning on stopping by NJ by any chance?
B/c there's this huge japanese market called Mitsuwa,
and the bookstore next to it (Sanseido) is pretty useful!
Last time i was able to find CrazyMoon/AshitaNoKioku LE CD without even
expecting it! :)

I live in NYC too, and sometimes BookOff has magazines, but rarely. :) Even though Mitsuwa and Sanseido are in NJ, they are very easy to get to from NYC. There's a van shuttle service out of Port Authority 42nd street that literally drives you there (only $3 one way). It runs every hour on the weekdays, but every 1/2 hour on weekends.

Im going to NYC in a few weeks, so this post is perfect. So what Im getting at is I can get recent magazines at Kinokuniya. That's what I really want to get.
Thanks for the info.
Also, is the price the same? Like is there any extra cost than what I would actually get in Japan?

Date: 2009-08-22 06:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ketsune.livejournal.com
It's definitely more expensive. You get charged the additional price of shipping it over and then there is tax on top of it to boot.

Like a magazine that is 750 yen in Japan would be at least $10, I think. They do have conversion charts posted on the stands so you can see, and there is a little corner with old (fashion/news/manga/but no Johnny's) magazines at a discount.
