ARASHI'S NEW MOVIE
May. 9th, 2006 07:33 pmHot off the press!!
Here's my translation of it:
It was announced on the 9th that the popular group Arashi will star in "Kiiroi Namida (Yellow Tears)" next spring. This is the third film Arashi will star in since "Pikanchi."
The story follows a group of youths following their dreams in 1960's Japan. Based off of the manga "Wakamono tachi (Youths)" by Nagashima Shinji, whose works were featured on NHK's "Ginga Shosetsu (Galaxy Novels)" in 1974.
The movie version was planned by director Indou Isshin, who decided to cast Arashi after viewing their concert last year and decided that they fit the image perfectly. Shooting begins on the 12th.
Sakurai Sho (24) who will play Mukai Ryuuzo, who wants to be an author (in the movie) said, "I am very excited that Mr. Indou was able to let all five of us participate in this work that he is so inspired by. I think this (film) about youths in a time of unparalled optimism in a time of rapid economic growth will be a breath of fresh air especially now during these not so optimistic times."
Indou Isshin directed the baseball movie "Touch" that was out this summer. I haven't seen his works yet, but I'm hoping it will be good.
The manga artist Nagashima Shinji is straight up old school; here's the cover to "Wakamono-tachi"

Lol okay another edit: the 60's in Japan were good times because that's when they finally started getting out of the WWII rut. After the Olympics were hosted in Tokyo (which brought a lot of money and prompted several construction projects, like the Yoyogi Stadium) Japan finally got back on track with an amazing economic success story. What Sho is referring to about the "not so optimistic times" is the economic slump that Japan has been in ever since their "bubble" economy burst in the early 90s. I guess Japan is all about escapist/nostalgic film too!
EDIT2: MORE INFO!
The main actress with be Kashii Yuu (19)

The manga artist just passed away recently last year.
The story is set in Tokyo, Asagaya in 1964 (Tokyo Olympics!) Here is what each member aspires to be: Aiba = Singer, Ohno = Painter, Nino = Manga Artist, Sho = Author, and Matsujun plays a young man who moves from the Tohoku area to Tokyo to be a part of the Shuudan Shuushoku plan (a plan set up by the government to help rebuilt japan after the war).

Date: 2006-05-10 01:46 am (UTC)haha that's true though I think Nino's best role would've been a video game maker or tester XD since he's more of a video game Otaku (from what I saw the ones who read manga seems to be more Jun and Aiba but that might just be me none of the 2 seem like otaku though XD) haha but he will make a perfect otaku though GO NINO!!! (I wanna be a mangaka XD so it'll be fun to see him want to be one XD) Oh-chan was definatly meant for that role XD

Date: 2006-05-10 01:51 am (UTC)lol they didn't have video games in the 60s! And he admitted himself on DnoArashi when they went to akiba that he was a bit of an otaku.

Date: 2006-05-10 01:34 am (UTC)Actually, the predominant hairstyle for men back in 1964 were either buzz cuts or hair that is just slightly longer but super gelled and swept to the side.
