One of the many things about JE that I like is that it has existed long enough to have a repertoire, and that over time, the Juniors train by performing these songs on Shounen Club and elsewhere. Then, if/when they debut, their best songs are added to the repertoire.

Out of all of the songs that I consider to be JE standards, "Andalucia ni Akogarete" is my favorite. My questions are:

1. Have Arashi ever performed Andalucia as a group outside of the Countdown lives, and is there video available?

2. What is your favorite version of an Arashi song done by another group/Jrs?

I haven't seen arashi perform that song before. well most of the time it's performed by KAT-TUN? and there's a performance by quite a few JE people..
anyway, I like yamapi's performance of sawarenai on Shounen Club.

i dont think i've heard arashi perform andalucia outside of countdowns... as for number 2... my fave arashi song perfomed by another johnny's group is DEFINATELY tomadoinagara performed by Koyama/Uchi and NewS on shonen club July 7, 2005 (i think that was the date)... but the perfomance was SOOOOO amazing!! another one i REALLY like is K(oyama)K(usano)K(ato), Massu and Tego perfoming A-Ra-Shi during summary 04!! the rap sounded almost the exact same and it was so kool!!

It always feels so weird when someone covers an Arashi song. It's such a reminder that Arashi is actually part of JE, which, for some reason, I have trouble remembering.

...I kind of hate all the versions of Arashi songs I've heard this far. Though I faintly remember some performance where some of the NEWS members covered... something. And it wasn't that bad. <<;

heh, I'd love to hear Arashi's version of Andalucia too, if a thing like that exists.

I completely agree. I'm hardpressed to think of a cover of Arashi's songs by other groups that I actually like, to be honest :/ Maybe it's because I'm too biased towards them, but yeah... though I guess I didn't really mind Pi's Sawarenai too much XD

I just watched the Pi's version that was linked above. And um. Yeah, not bad, but still felt wrong. The saddest thing is when someone covers a.ra.shi. That's like Arashi's theme song, you aren't supposed to sing it if you aren't in the damn group! D: I think some of the juniors did it a while ago in SC and it was awful. then again, I might remember very wrongly and it was a completely different song... I'm bad with this remembering things-stuff.

Probably because the song's supposed to be performed with five people? XD I don't know, compared to, say, Ueda (*shudder*) Pi's cover was much better, but I agree, it's just plain weird to see it happening.

Heh, it makes me wonder what fans of other groups think when they see 'their' songs covered, though. I know Arashi's covered TOKIO songs (and probably older V6 songs) before... their fans probably thought that Arashi completely butchered those too XD

I'm sure the fans of the other groups think like that too. xD Covers are always a bit weird, especially if there's really no change from the original. All the good covers that I've heard have always been very different from the original song.

The only exception I can think of is Andalucia, because everyone has done that, so it doesn't sound that weird anymore.

I've heard a few covers before that I really liked, but you're probably right since they were pretty different from the original. That and they're all in English, though I'm not sure how that makes much of a difference XD;

I'm still trying to think of songs, but I honestly can't come up with much. I actually liked the cover of Wa ni Natte Odorou from the 2004 Summary concert, but... that's a V6 song, not Arashi XD; Plus it seems to me that the most frequently covered Arashi song is A-RA-SHI, which just... doesn't work. If you cut out the rapping it sounds incomplete, but if you try to do the rapping... it just spells disaster because everyone sounds so weird x_x;

I had a ripped mp3 of Pi's Sawarenai, so I never actually watched it... I did just now, and it's... odd. Pi's got the rest of KAT-TUN as back up dancers, but why the mics? It's not like anyone can hear them sing (that is, if they are). All I can make out is Pi's voice, even during the chorus. >_>;

some of the versions are really bad but i like a few of them... an example of the VERY VERY bad one... ueda from kat-tun singing kotoba yorimo taisetsu na mono... as much as i luv ueda he COMPLETELY RUINED THE SONG!! it sounded so horrible!! another example yamashita shoon from ya-ya-yah singing riida's 'top secret' OMG!! I SWEAR!! SHOON SHOULD NEVER SING RIIDA SOLOS!! HE RUINED IT!! NO ONE... and i mean NO ONE can pull off riida's solos EXCEPT HIMSELF!!

Ohhh man, I know exactly what you mean. My friend sent me an mp3 rip of Ueda's solo and it almost killed me.

I scratch my head when people tell me they think Shoon's cover of Top Secret was actually good, but then it's probably because they've never seen Ohno's original perf of it before, so I guess you can't really blame them. >_>;

What, no mention of NEWS' Arashi medley from YYY? D: It was horrible. They covered Hadashi no Mirai (among other songs), and I almost cried, it was that bad.

Top Secret is one of my favourites and even the thought of someone else than Ohno singing it makes my fangirl-heart cry. xP I saw the clip of Shoon doing it and I just kept thinking that they should have come up with a new dance routine, because Shoon really couldn't match Ohno.

OMG...your kidding about Ueda's version of kotoba yorimo taisetsu na mono? seriously, I love his version! O__o ~~ after watching him sing that I began to notice him & like him more (before I saw that, I didn't even know his name ^^;;)
I think that would actually have to be my fave covered version of an Arashi song. lol.

I second this! I think it's hard to remember Arashi because unlike the older groups and the younger groups, Arashi has no common JE "counter-part". It feels like it's not managed by JE because JE usually makes them do things together (most notably Summary of Johnny's World) and Arashi just... doesn't.

I have "Andalucia ni Akogarete" three times: the Matchy rock remake of it, the Higashiyama cover, and the Andalucia Unit cover. I wish I had the original version, but it's making itself rare on the internet ;P

They haven't covered it by themselves. The closest you'll get it the recent countdown when members got to sing in duos/trios with Matchy.

Personally I can't tell you my favorite cover because I generally don't like them, but I can tell you my least favorite cover: Shoon's cover of Ohno's Top Secret. Jesus christ can we talk about butchering a song.
