Where to go in Tokyo?
Oct. 8th, 2009 07:39 pmHello everyone!
Hope you could help me out here a little ^^
I'll be going to japan in November so besides Johnny's shop, does anyone have recommendations on where to go to see/buy things related to arashi? I'll be staying in the Tokyo area.
Thank you so much in advance! (:

Date: 2009-10-08 02:02 pm (UTC)On Omotesando (between Harajuku JR Station and Aoyama Hills) you'll find the Café Hors et Dans, where Ohno shot some scene for Maou.
The cafe itself is a nice place to stay a while, and they serve delicious tea (I'm picky on tea ^^; ) Furthermore, you can go down/up Omotesando, full of luxury shops (where Shô usually shops)
Odaiba is a must see. You can go on the ferris wheel to have a large view of Tokyo bay area, and it's where the Fuji Terebi studio is. Going back by sea is really enjoyable. If you have the time (we hadn't) you can push to Yashio (Pikan'chi) wich is on the way.
But I recommend to spend a day if you can (and have company) in Yokohama, beacause it's fun (the bay, Chinatown, etc.). It's only 20minutes away from Shinagawa JR Station. Plus, it's "free" if you choose to take the JR Railpass before.

Date: 2009-10-08 03:09 pm (UTC)also, i've heard that they are very short on notice and you need to follow strict instructions. i heard that if you hit, but do not reply or cannot attend, they blacklist you from future recording sessions. plus if you hit you need to bring all your papers and information proving your in the fanclub, and sometimes their instructions on where to meet can be complicated, so if you're not fluent in japanese it can be very difficult.
i hope this helps!

Date: 2009-10-08 07:14 pm (UTC)I don't really have further recommendations (apart from Drama location hunting, I have to make a list for all the interesting places in Tokyo, and I'm sure there are A LOT) but I will arrive in Tokyo on November 3rd and thought about meeting up?
Maybe we can visit some places together? =3

Date: 2009-10-09 12:18 am (UTC)Also the Harajuku store can be sold out of stuff when the other stores have it, so if you can get to one of the other Johnny's stores, you might find what you are looking for.
Arashi stuff is pretty hard to find, my friend is not very experienced but he said he couldn't find anything at the end of June because it was all sold out. The fukuoka store was all out of uchiwa.
I don't really know where to go for unofficial goods, assuming your looking for that sort of thing, but I sent my friend to Takeshi doori street (spelling) in Harajuku and it worked out well again. There is a variety of idol shops there, but I assume most of the stuff in the non-Johnny's stores is unofficial. Look for the small shops with pictures of the boys on or outside of them. From what I saw in the pictures those shops have stuff for both female and male idols and other groups aside from Johnny's groups so if your looking for something outside of Johnny's you might find it there. Not sure how the stock of arashi goods are in these stores.
I got 2 items from the un-official stores, a NEWS mechanical pencil and a Kat-Tun phone strap. For unofficial both items seem to be pretty high quality, not what you would expect from your average bootleg anime item found in the US (some of these can be pretty poor quality). Unfortunately I can't tell you which shop these items were bought at. The pictures on the pencil were clear and the stickers that came with the phone strap were done well, and the strap is sturdy and does not seem like it will come apart easily. I paid 399Y for the pencil and 735Y for the phone strap. Overall it was worth it.

Date: 2009-10-16 04:03 pm (UTC)Hm yeah i would love to go to another johnny's shop, since i HIGHLY doubt i'll even be stepping into the one at harajuku. pfft. Too little time, plus i'll be with an aunty who won't be too keen on it. But then i think other places are too out of the way too. ): Since i'll be around tokyo mostly.
I think i won't mind unofficial stuff though if they're not too expensive^^

Date: 2009-10-09 01:53 am (UTC)if you are an aiba fan, you may want to check out his family's restaurant in Chiba... check out my post (http://aishitsuzukeru.livejournal.com/36331.html) if you are interested in seeing what the food is like... also, I'll be posting a link on how to get there through that journal post, so check back in a day or two...
if you are a sho fan, you can check out Kisarazu. I personally havent been there, but its pretty far out of Tokyo (I think the last stop on its line, 2 hours from shibuya by train).
a good site to use for train schedules is www.hyperdia.com
good luck and have fun!

Date: 2009-10-09 11:36 am (UTC)one place i have to recommend, since you're obviously JE fan, you should visit the Family Club building. it's located in Shibuya, close to Aoyama. it's a quite small place where there are posters and signatures from (maybe all?) JE idols. also KinKi Kids' Guinness records plate is there! then they are showing these videos there where idol groups talk about stuff, making of their PV's or something. let me know if you want instructions how to get there!
some people recommended Odaiba. it's extremely beautiful during night time. besides, you get to see a great glimpse of Rainbow Bridge! the Fuji TV building is in Odaiba.
also, if you're not interested in visiting Tokyo Tower, another great tall building 'Sunshine City' is located in Ikebukuro.
if you like animals, then you should definitely visit Ueno zoo. it's amazing really! too bad they don't have the giant panda anymore :( but there are loads of interesting animals over there.
you're probably heading for Harajuku so Yoyogi park is really close to the Harajuku station. on Sunday mornings, there are cool stuff going on in Yoyogi park such as danching Elvis cosplayers. there used to be live bands playing but i'm not sure if they we're banned. anyways, you should check it out!
have a safe trip!

Date: 2009-10-15 03:51 pm (UTC)Also, visit Mori Tower at Roppongi Hills (http://www.roppongihills.com/en/) to get a pretty night view of the Tokyo Tower nearby. Admission fee is 1500yen. They are closed at 10pm Japan time on weekdays. (sorry forgot what time they close on weekends) The same ticket admits you to the Mori Art Musuem which always carries some eye-catching art exhibition on show.
Another pressing reason you should check out Roppongi Hills? TV Ashahi! Aiba-chan's currently in MY GIRL so they probably would have some Aiba-related poster on the show on display in the first floor visitors area!! [gah, how I wish I was there now!) You can also pose with the huge Doraemon there just outside the TV Asahi shop where you can buy official Doraemon stuff, foodstuff for souvenirs as well as official Music Station goods.
Also, Bambino! (Jun's 2007 drama) was set there and you can see the huge steel spider sculpture from ep 1 just outside the Tokyo Metro subway station on the Hibiya line. (I suggest going to Ebisu Garden Place then to Roppongi which is on the same Metro line).
There's also the Toho cinemas there where Aiba-chan premiered MY GIRL. If you have time to spare, go to Tsukiji market for their fresh seafood in the mornings. NTV is on the same Oedo line. Then, Odaiba at Big Sight or even Disneyland/DisneySea.
Lots of things to do in Shibuya besides the Family Club. Remember to check out the L'Occitane Cafe at the junction outside JR Hachiko exit as it was the location used for Nino's Ryusei no Kizuna many times where Ryo x Erika did their "swindling".
Dont miss Asakusa Kannon Temple. The street leading up to the temple bustles with lots of foodstalls and souvenir shops and even some Johnnys stuff are sold there! (think unofficial uchiwas, stickers, keychains, posters etc). Since autumn hours are short, be there not later than 3pm if you wish to spend more time browsing as most of the shops close at 5pm-ish.
Have fun in Tokyo! November is the tail end of autumn and the onset of winter so I would suggest you dress warmly. (layering is the way to go) Hope the tips helped!
