So apparently Tsutaya Online conducted a survey about who people would want to see in the role of a military commander from the civil war, and 3/5 of Arashi made the top 10.

but Saigo in Iwo Jima is pretty much Nino transplanted to WWII XD... not sure if he's "commander" material as much as the others. Maybe a second in command, as Nino always had a "shadow leader" vibe to him. I do love him as the snarky soldier though... when I watched Iwo Jima the character reflected his so much that I just called him Nino instead of Saigo haha.

I guessed Nino, MatsuJun, and Sho, and then I thought, "Oh, maybe Ohno could be the one instead of Sho..." Hmm.

I honestly though Nino would be #1 out of Arashi. Imo, he's the most talented (acting wise) and he even did Letters From Iwo Jima, so he has some experience playing a solider.

I would like to think this is a sign that people will now accept Jun portraying roles which are not manga-based. ^__^ As to why he might have gotten the top spot (and not the others), it might be because of his 2010 project.

i figured Nino would be tops, followed by Jun somewhere along the top 15. But seeing Ohno on the list is kinda surprising. Guess they know Ohno has the chops for it since he's acted in a stageplay as a samurai ya?

I would love to see Jun in uniform. Military commander, I think he can make it with his loud voice when talking or giving instruction.

By "the civil war", which period of time are we talking about? Everyone's surprised Nino's so low on the list but WWII era is different from, say, the Tokugawa shogunate.

I can see why Ohno and Koichi are up there 'cause they do a lot of period pieces in their stageplays. Matsujun, probably because he did The Last Princess movie. And I can guess why Sho and a lot of others weren't chosen because they have more modern looks.

I applaud for Ohno for being up there. I'm surprised Nino is below him but after Ohno's Maou performance, I can see Ohno acting the mean commander while Nino is good at being strict but not evil...

Well, Jun does look the best in uniform XD (Note how he usually has the most military details on his concert costumes.) That was a surprising one though; although Jun's won a lot of awards, most people see Nino as the "actor" of the group (like me, even if Jun is my favourite haha). He does have an imposing presence that would work for a commander (how else would he pull off the muscular, 6'0" Domyouji at a skinny 5'8"?) but I always thought it was my own fangirl bias. Apparently people agree with me, haha.

If it were about popularity, I would think the KAT-TUN or NewS boys would take higher spots.

ETA: Oh, it's a Civil War in JAPAN... yeah, Jun has "The Last Princess" under his belt, so he has at least one jidaigeki to put him forth. My stupid American self thought of our own war, haha... in that case, I'm surprised Tackey isn't first since he's always in period pieces.

I'm not generally that big on war movies, so like, I haven't seen The Last Princess, but Letters from Iwo Jima was, of course, amazing. I definitely think Ohno could be a commander, but I can only see Sho and Aiba as soldiers or something. Although Sho is a natural leader... Hmmm.

That's okay. This reaction is nothing compared to the survey where he topped as 'the person you want most to be your boyfriend.' Sometimes I wish he doesn't show up in surveys at all because some of the comments are completely below the belt. XDDD

I though Sho too but when I look at the full list, I do agree with it. I know all but two names on the list and it makes me nod. To tell the truth, Sho is too cuddly, cute, and squishy. I'd wanna keep him out of this kind of role! (I think Ohno's sincerity earns him a spot - he does act like a true Leader when it comes to taking care of Arashi. Mago Mago Boat Club is a fine example.)

I can only come up with two possible conclusions regarding your comment:

1.) You are misinformed. Maou and The Quiz Show got higher ratings than Smile. Currently, all five of them are bankable, not just Matsujun.

2.) If you find the comments being made here rather juvenile, we offer our apologies then. I am kind of getting the vibe that you are re-wording some comments in this post and making them sound idiotic. :-/

i'm sorry for sound very idiotic. i didn't even think of comparing him with others when i wrote it just now. please don't make me sound like i did.i didn't mean to because i only see everything in OVERALL not just by rating of one or two drama.i never meant to say that others are not good nor hating them. i like them EQUALLY.i just say that i kind of understand why he is ON TOP right now NOT why he is not suppose to. not only him but whoever is ON TOP. Like I said in the first conclusion: You are misinformed. There is nothing in your original post that implied that you hated/not favored the other four. I did state that you are one or the other.

I am just fed up with fans similar to some of Yamapi's (not you, by the way). They go on harping that member X is the reason why the group's popular. Then you get even more crappier people who hate the member these extremely biased fans like. Or just hate a particular member after watching lotsa their shows.

It is totally alright to be biased when it comes to your ichiban, but to make another member the fodder of insults in order to elevate your favorite is low. And I am not talking about affectionate bashing here but disrespectful nitpicking and criticizing.
