arashi_on | Channel V Battle of the Pop 101 for Arashians

Hello, this is soft_rain again! =)

In my other notice post, I found out a lot of people still don't know much about Channel V's Battle of Pop, such as why it's important and what it'll actually do for Arashi. So after long conversation with the very knowledgeable

cassyclim8, we decided to make this FAQ post in case anyone still has any questions, (even if it's only going to be useful for the next 3-4 days =P).

First off, for the people that really don't know anything yet: Arashi is currently up against Kat-tun for the final round of Channel V's Battle of Pop: Japan vs. Korea. But this is probably old news to most of you, right? I'm sorry if you guys are getting sick of hearing about BoP. I swear this will be my last post on it. ^ ^'

If you have any questions about the battle, please take a look at the information that cassy has so kindly organized for us. Honestly, I was amazed when she told me all this, because I didn’t know as much about Channel V as I thought I did. Hope it helps~

What is Channel V?

Channel V is a music channel that is being broadcasted across Asia in places such as

Malaysia

Philippines

Singapore

Cambodia

Taiwan

Thailand

, etc. Battle of the Pop (BOP) has been a regular poll of Channel V. Past BOPs and the corresponding winners are the following

• March 2009 Battle of the Pop: Asia vs America – Rain (winner)

Let’s add Arashi to this list by making them the winners of the Japan vs Korea BOP!!!! This is the first time that Arashi was included in the BOP. Even in the Asia vs Asia battle where a lot of idol bands and artists across Asia were included, Arashi was not there! =(

Why is this poll important? How is it any different from the others?

Channel V is aired in several Asian countries and this is a chance for Arashi to be known to a wider audience. Currently, Channel V does not air Arashi videos as much as that of other cpop or kpop groups in their shows. This poll would signal to Channel V that there are lots of Arashi fans in this part of the world. When TVXQ and Super Junior won in BOP, Channel V aired a one-hour special for each group in their show Videoscope. It seems like Channel V is now aware that there are a lot of Arashi fans among the countries in which their channel caters to so they decided to have a one-hour special on Arashi for their Videoscope show on November 14, 2009 (source: http://forum.channelv.com/index.php?topic=1806.msg6244).

There was a bit of outrage among Arashi fans when they originally indicated in their site that an Arashi Videoscope special was scheduled on Oct 10, 2009 only to find out that they were featuring Utada. Apparently, it had been rescheduled to November 14. They better not mess with the already fragile hearts of Arashi fans by not airing it again, if ever. Videoscope would usually provide information about the artist from their debut to their newest hits. I HOPE SOMEONE WOULD BE ABLE TO CAP THIS AND UPLOAD THE VIDEOSCOPE SPECIAL.

Also, this is not just a regular poll. Channel V will have a show displaying the results of BoP. And they will air a lot of videos of the winning artist. About 3-5 approximately. =)

Alright then, you've caught my interest. How do I vote?

3. You may vote once a day! And if you want to vote more than once a day, that's your decision so please don't comment about how we've made a mistake on this info post.

I can’t vote! Channel V is screwing with me!! What do I do?

If you’re stuck in the semifinal round or the poll doesn’t even show up on your screen, then you may try one of the following:

1. Clear your cookies and temp internet files.
2. Use another browser from the one previously used in voting in the last round. Like if you used chrome, shift to firefox, internet explorer, safari, etc.
3. Close the current window and open a new one.
4. Use another computer or laptop (wow that would be total dedication!)

Attention, the final score is:

ARASHI: 20,304 (*And we have over 100,000 votes total!! Whoo, let's celebrate!!)

KAT-TUN: 14,106

These numbers will be updated every day as much as possible but since I still have to eat, sleep and go to classes, they might be a bit off sometimes. If you want to find the exact count, then learn how by following the link below.

What’s the sitch?! How do I know if Arashi is leading when I can’t see the tally of votes like in the previous rounds?

We can actually do a pretty rough estimate of the situation by adding the final votes per round of the artist then subtract it from the figures at the “Artist Leaderboard section” at the BOP homepage:

So here’s the formula:
Final vote figure of Artist1 = Artist Leaderboard figure of Artist1 – (Round 1 final figure of Artist1 + Round 2 final figure of Artist1 + Semifinal final figure of Artist1)

The cumulative figures for the first 3 rounds per artist are as follows:

Arashi – 80,867
Kattun – 70,473

So in effect, we could just deduct these numbers from the figures in the Leader board section of the BOP homepage and we’ll be able to have an idea of the votes.

Sorry. If cassy's math is a little confusing, then try to think of it like this: the total number of votes of both Arashi and Kat-tun are cumulative, meaning they're a total of all the votes from the final and the previous rounds. So if the total of the past three rounds for Arashi is 80867, then just subtract that number from the overall votes on the BOP homepage and you have the number of votes in the final round! 4-3=1 right?

But remember! It's not the overall number of votes that counts. Arashi has about 12K more votes than Kat-tun overall, but that doesn't mean anything because most of those votes are from the previous rounds. It's only the number of votes in the final round that matters. Okay? Sorry again if we're confusing you. But please go to the site above and try cassy's math is you want to find the exact tally yourself.

When will we find out the results?

I’ve browsed in several homepages of previous BOP battles and it seems that they usually air the show on a Sunday. In one BOP battle, the last day of voting was Friday and the Results show was aired on Sunday.

The timeslot is also different depending on the number of participants of the battle. During the Asia vs America Results show, there were 32 artists who competed in round 1, so the schedule was from 6am – 6pm (GMT+8 or Hongkong, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia time). Since the number of artists who participated in this BOP is smaller, the airtime will definitely be shorter.

Date for the Voting period to end according to Channel V site is Sun. Oct. 25, (we have until the 25th to get our votes in for Arashi!!). ~~The time is not specified so I don’t know if the Results show will also be aired on the same day.~~

*Attention! According to the wonderful ~~aishoni~~ who was nice enough to inform us of the news, Channel V will have their Results show on November 2, 2pm - 5pm HK/SG, 3pm - 6pm MAL. I...don't know when those times are but at least we know the day, right? ^_^'

**IMPORTANT! Big news!! According to

tapsilogue, the date of the Results show has been changed yet again. It is now on November 1, at 2pm HK/SG/PH, 3pm MAL. Please don't miss it!!

Format of the Results show: (this is based on what my friend told me when she watched a previous BOP episode. I wasn’t able to watch the whole thing so….)

Channel V, (with the usual spiel of the VJ and commercial breaks making the show longer) , will air first one music video each from ALL artists who participated in the first round.

After this, they will show a music video of ALL artists who advanced to the second round. (My friend told me that the videos shown for round 2 are different from the music video shown for round 1). The same procedure applies for the semifinal round.

For the final round, they will show a music video of the runner-up artist and finally MORE THAN 1 MUSIC VIDEO of the Winning Artist. I’m not sure if the music videos for the winning artist will be different from the ones previously aired or if they will play all 3 videos and then add some more….
