I've translated Oricon's article on the presentation ceremony which Arashi attended to receive their awards, with quotes from each member and more! I'm considering translating their exclusive interview with Oricon about their awards since it's pretty short, but I know it has already been posted so I guess maybe let me know if anyone wants me to do that too?
Enjoy!
Arashi, the first ever 4-category champs in one year
Expressing this year in one word, it would be "Arashi"
Basing off actual package sales, the presentation ceremony for the "42nd Oricon Yearly Rankings 2009" (data collection period: 2008/12/22~2009/12/21) took place in the metropolitan area on the 18th, and was attended by popular group Arashi, who has topped the three categories of singles, albums and music DVD sales. Regarding their undeniably unrivaled activities which include a first appearance on Kouhaku and more, when the questions moved from press-related to how they would express this year in a single kanji character, Aiba Masaki elicited laughter with his instant reply of "Arashi!".
Arashi monopolizes the top three spots in the singles category with "Believe/Kumorinochi, Kaisei" (657,000 copies), "Ashita no Kioku/Crazy Moon ~kimi wa muteki~" (621,000 copies) and "My Girl" (513,000 copies). Since Pink Lady from 1978 and Hikaru Genji from 1988, they have become the third group in history to monopolize the top three spots after 21 years.
Even in the album category, they possess the top spot with "All the BEST! 1999-2009" (1,433,000 copies). Furthermore, with the Artist Total Sales (ATS) awarded to them for the accumulated sales of singles, albums, music DVDs and music Blue-ray Discs for a total sales of of 14.46 billion yen, they have achieved the "CD and DVD 4-category champs" title for the first time in history.
As they have also monopolized the top two spots in singles sales last year, their leader Ohno Satoshi, back again at the awards ceremony for the second year running, said: "It feels miraculous to be following last year in succession like this, I still can't feel any sense of reality. I still can't feel any sense of reality about last year too. It feels very dream-like, but I'm happy."
Matsumoto Jun, who accepted the certificate of commendation as their representative, expressed enthusiasm towards their first appearance in "NHK Kouhaku Utagassen": "I'm honestly happy. I'm happy that the things we have been doing over the span of a year has taken shape in the form of an award. It has given us the power to dash all the way through to New Years' Eve at the end of the year. I also want to work hard to bring the year of 2009 to the best conclusion ever."
Presenting the remaining four members with four trophies' worth for each award, Sakurai Sho said, "It feels unbelievable to have all the members each accepting a trophy with no one left out.", while Ninomiya said with a smile, "It was very heavy. I've never received something like that before."
On the other hand, Aiba, who did not attend the awards ceremony last year, said happily that "Leader and (Sakurai) Sho-kun came last year whereas I wasn't able to, so I'm very happy today. I'd like to take things steadily one step at a time next year too." When asked about this year's kanji character and faced with the mic pointed towards him, he replied instinctively with "Arashi!" at once. Prompting laughter and "You're tremendously stupid! What a shock" from Ninomiya despite himself with a display of his naive character, it became Aiba's own unchallenged stage at the very end.

Date: 2009-12-18 06:22 pm (UTC)Aiba is so cute >_< I couldn't resist his comment and I'm really glad Arashi was very overwhelmed while receiving the award. They really are very humble and I hope they stay the same as always.
No matter what happens I'll always love and support them. ^_^ Good luck next year and make sure to hold a concert here in N.America! LOL...
