[Question/Discussion] Arashi Male Fan

I'm so curious about Arashi male fans after reading some of the Arashi 5x10 Osaka Kyocera Dome Concert report. At that time, many male fans came isn't it. Even Arashi-san themselves also surprised with the amount of male fans coming to the concert at Kyocera.

What piqued my interest about this topic is not because they are male fans of Arashi but I want to know about what they do during Arashi-san concert. I mean, compare to fangirls that bring their Arashi or self made uchiwa, penlight, banner and other arsenal of Arashi flailing fangirling stuffs, do these male fans counterpart also bring those things with them during the concert??

I have read concert report before *2008 maybe??* about 2 male fans of Arashi that attending the concert. At first, this person think that those 2 guys only came to accompany their Arashi fangirl friends but no.. These 2 guys also shouting Arashi-san members name like "Nino!! Nino!!" or "Riidaa" during concert. And they also doing the dance steps or hand movement of Arashi song and they good at it. My thought is like "SOOO KAKKOIII~!!"

Sa minna-san..let us discuss about Arashi male fans. What do you think about them if you see any of them singing, shouting, dancing and do any other things during Arashi concert?? What do you feel and how do you react if you see them carrying an uchiwa, a penlight or a banner?? And if you have any experience during concert like Arashi male fan sitting beside you, do tell  and share what you see and feel about them.

edited: Just to make things clear, this discussion is about Arashi male fans behavior in a concert like are they bringing uchiwa, penlight, banner or any other stuffs and about what they do in concert like just singing and dancing or flailing like their fangirls counterpart. Things like that I'm interested. Not the "Who cares?? Fanboys or fangirls, they are free to like who ever they want" type of discussion. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh.

male fans wave and smile and stuff like that at Arashi's concert :D
sho talked about male fans in one of 5x10 concert mc- apparently many male fans winked at Sho-chan and he was like "i didn't know how to respond to that" XD
and apparently there are lots of Nino male fans. i think Nino has a lot of intense male fans- one of the male fan bought tons of Nino goods like posters and other things and stuffed it in his bag.
and there is other Nino fan who was spotted in the train- and he had Nino's au phone and arashi strap.
and there are male fans in the industry too - like Hatori (Zoom in announcer), Oriental Radio (Comedians), and etc.
oh yeah lol two male fans were seen dressed as Ohmiya SK at the concert XD
i think it's awesome that there are male fans since male reacting to male idols is seen very uh.."weird" in japan. so it must mean that Arashi has that "special charm" which appeals to everyone :D
btw it's not only kyosera dome that had many male audiences, apparently XD

For me, when I see male fans at an Arashi concert, I just feel really happy. Perhaps it's because it's like a confirmation of Arashi's appeal. Generally, idol groups are the domain of fangirls and the fact that Arashi has a sizeable (and apparently increasing) number of male fans seems to show that they are more than just an idol group...that there must be something more to them than the package manufactured by Johnny's.

At the Sapporo concert, even Arashi themselves commented (during the MC) on the obvious number of men in the audience. I saw guys with their girlfriends/wives and guys who went with other guy friends and dads with their families. It was great to see. ^_^

As for how they behave during the concert, I think how the male fans behave varies. The ones I saw were doing the furitsuke and shouting the names of Arashi members....just like the rest of us. XD But next to me were female fans who were very reserved. They barely did anything...just stood there.

i love it when male fans speak out and say they are a fan of a certain idol group like arashi. i mean, coz it's normal for girls like most of us to go on and on about how we love them and stuff but for guys it's a bit more difficult. so for them to actually say that is a plus for me.

these fanboys are special for me! so are the grandparents, or people who are even in their late 30s and older as well as kids who love arashi! i feel proud as a fan knowing that arashi can attract such diverse crowds and their reasons for liking arashi....

Wait, the most of Arashi's Japanese fans are in their 30/40/50s, more than girls in their 20s.. and if I have to say it I don't like them at all!! O_O

Btw, I saw a lot of male fans when I went to Arashi's concert.. there were also groups of 2, 3 or even 4 male fans =D I'm pretty sure those guys joined the fanclub too ^^

The most recent I've heard of Arashi male fans is in Kouhaku where they cheered for Arashi and they said thank you back or something like that. Nakai even complemented them that they had lots of male fans.

I have male friends who are Arashi fans. They fanboy like us girls except without the member so-and-so is so handsome kind of thing. But they keep on telling me so-and-so is kakko ii and stuff and one of them is more updated on Arashi than me. My Japanese teacher is even a MatsuJun fan.

Male fans aren't a rare occurence in the Johnny's fandom, it's just that they don't fanboy as rabidly as we do. They get sucked into the Johnnys fandom for mostly the same reasons we female fans like them too.

I have two fanboy friends... one is japanese and has an uchiwa and penlight at every con he goes to (he also likes kanjani and tokio) and the other is american and thinks arashi is funny and that their songs are catchy.

Actually I just became one just last year so I'm not yet very versed with the fandom ^^;, but so far I really don't see why fanboys would be unusual.

I mean what's not to like? (Minus the occasional "fanservice if you don't mind)
They're cool, can sing and dance well, but aren't afraid to be dorks.
For me, they're somewhat breaking barriers of being just the "cool/popular people" that should always be behaving properly in society. They're not stereotypes, and that's what makes them interesting.

So yeah, sorry for the long post. Hope to get along with everyone.Dozo Yourosuku! ^^

O yeah, forgot to add. I've never been in a concert (or will ever be), but if I do, I'd probably just watch and be happy, that I'm actually seeing them live.

And oh, I have female friends/cousins who're fans of girl groups (Mostly Korean), so if they can be fans of girl groups, why can't guys be fans of boy groups right? ^^

My brother is actually a pretty big Nino fan. We had watched Letters From Iwo Jima together, and we were both sobbing by the end. (Keep in mind that my brother is 6'5" and around 250 lbs.) I told him that he was actually in a pretty popular Japanese group and was really funny on his shows. My brother is basically Nino, except a foot+ taller and about 2 1/2 Ninos in size. (lolololing right now.) But yeah, he likes watching VS Arashi and other shows he's in.

I read somewhere comparison between SMAP and Arashi, it was about Arashi getting a national-size idols, and there was an argument in favour of SMAP - that they have many male fans, more that Arashi have.

So I agree, the more male Arashi fans means that they are becoming more that just an idol group with a lot of fangirls :)

I watched Arashi's DVD concert and could find so many fanboys there. They just stood and watched the performes, they also clapped their hands, sang and danced along to Arashi. But in all, they they weren't crazy like fangirls, I think so.
Just my opinion, I've never been in Arashi's concert ^^

Hahaha...I have a friend who is a Ohno fan-man (?) can't say fan-boy, since he is like in his late 30s... His wife is an Aiba fan though... it was fun seeing them at concerts... cos he will cheer whenever Riida comes close >.<
And we are in the process of converting his younger brother, whose wife and daughters are fans of Nino, Riida and Aiba... For family gatherings, they can watch Arashi concert DVDs... lolzzz

Being a fanboy is hard... in our part sometimes
we were misunderstood as G**s which some are not like me

and if your goin to ask me if ill do a counter part
of what the fangirls do in the concert I could say no?
but Ill do the costume wearing in some of their performance
and dance with the steps :)

I Idolize arashi because of their dorkyness and somehow their talent
coz somehow I also dance which is one thing that I liked about Arashi :)

One of my Japanese friends - a boy - said that Arashi has a huge male fanbase! o/ And that they are the most popular boy group and huge record-holders in Japan~
