Spread the Arashi Love

Hey guys, I just heard some news that Ellen Degeneres, a talk show host in the USA is asking for suggestions on international artists and what better way to spread Arashi love than to nominate them for this.

and fill out the form as well as a small paragragh where you can tell Ellen about Arashi.

I think since she probably will play the song maybe we should pick something of their's that is still them yet can appeal to the american audience since you have to admit most americans dont listen to japanese music..and we wanna prove they are amazingly awesome..i think Oh Yeah! is a good choice or Sakura Sake...but we all have our different opinions! ^_^

Yes, I am a DBSK fan but Arashi was and always will be my first love! I totally filled it out & I think I wrote a pretty damn good description on why Ellen would love Arashi! There's not doubt in my mind she'd love them as much as us! Let's make Ellen into another Arashi fan everyone!

I picked Believe b/c that was their biggest song last year.

I totally pimped Arashi and included their amazingness in my pimping. Here's what I wrote:

Dear Ellen,
I really feel that you should consider the Japanese boy band, Arashi. Last year, they topped the Japanese album charts as well the Japanese DVD charts. They also held the top 3 spots in CD single sales in Japan. They were the only Asian artist to have their album in the top 50 albums sold worldwide last year. They host three tv shows and star in numerous dramas in Japan. One of their members is Ninomiya Kazunari, who starred in Clint Eastwood's "Letters from Iwo Jima." They are also a sensation outside of Japan and have held two concert tours in Asia. The song I chose, "Believe," was the group's top selling single last year. Please give it a listen.

The deep bond between the members really touches the hearts of their millions of fans, myself included. I found them through browsing the internet one day and fell in love with how amazing and dedicated they are to their work. Although Arashi's work is focused mainly in Japan, as a foreign fan, I still support them in all ways that I can from the US. I'd really love to see them recognized in the US and if you can help, that'd be even more awesome. Thanks so much!

This needs to be posted everywhere, I would be great for Arashi to be featured on american Tv. Since Ellen likes to dance a number like Believe would be good and they are recent, I'm afraid if fwe send old songs they won't think it's relevent. Umbrella is an awesome song but unfortunately there's no PV. One of the arguments I wrote about Arashi is that they are really versatile, they also act and do the news and one is artist and they are and funny and they also host variety shows, the variety show host info might interest her, Imagine if she tries to talk and interview Arashi!!! I'm sure if they get their hands on a show clip they'll think it's hilarious and feature it.

I think there should be a general consensus as to which songs we'll suggest. Like, mention in your post that we might wanna limit the song suggestions to their singles so the song suggestions don't end up so spread out. If she gets a too varied song suggestions, it might cause her to lose interest. On the other hand if she keeps getting suggestions that just keep popping out, that might make a difference.

And on the other hand, I think truth is a good choice. When I attempted to introduce Arashi to some of my friends when I was in high school, I showed them truth and they liked it. I think a lot of the other songs are too J-Pop to appeal to most American audiences maybe? I would also look at We Can Make It, because it's been released by so many artists with their own version that it might be interesting enough. And of course, the success track of Believe is undeniable so that should peak some interest.

I dunno. Just thought that if we really want to get them to go on Ellen, we need to have the same song suggestions.

I agree, for some reason truth is popular even among non j-pop fans. we get used to the happiness of the music, but you have to remember, america's not really that into upbeat, happy music in general

I think it might be better to choose upbeat songs or songs with touching lyrics. I know that doesn't narrow down the choices too much though ^^;
- upbeat songs: easy to dance to and are more appealing if you're just listening to a part of it and not the whole song
- touching lyrics: she's really into inspiring others and promoting optimism, which is exactly what arashi does with their songs <3 Maybe you can quote a couple of lines or a stanza in your comment so that they'll have an initial idea of what their songs are like ^^

*oh yea, I saw that some ppl already posted youtube vids of their PVs - I think it's important to be careful with posting youtube vids b/c that can get us into trouble and I'm sure none of us wants that, right? >.< I hope she picks arashi!

I did it too! I used Yurase Ima Wo, since it's the Winter Olympics theme. And I really used up the 1500 character limit! Here's what I put:

The international artist I'm nominating is the Japanese pop group Arashi (meaning 'storm'). Arashi is extremely popular in Japan. Last year, they were awarded 4 titles from Japan's Oricon charts (similar to the Billboard charts): #1 in single, album, music dvd and total sales. Their song Yurase Ima Wo ('Shake the Present') is Japan's official song for the Winter Olympics, and it, along with all of their music, has very uplifting lyrics. I have heard news stories from Japan that Arashi’s music has helped many young people overcome depression and feelings of suicide. This is close to my heart as a friend of mine also overcame her depression and "cutting" with Arashi's help.

Also, one of Arashi's members, Kazunari Ninomiya, was the lead actor (alongside Ken Watanabe) in Clint Eastwood's movie Letters from Iwo Jima!

Arashi's five young members (ages 26-29) currently host three different television variety/talk shows, in addition to starring in radio shows, commercials, stage plays, television dramas and movies. One of the members, Sho Sakurai, is also a newscaster and was just named one of Japan GQ’s Men of the Year. They are much loved in Japan for their sincerity, good humor and positive attitudes. Though they are an "idol" group, a very large part of their fan base is women over 30! They are well-known throughout Asia, but it is my hope that Americans will also be able to get to know Arashi. Their agency is Johnny’s Entertainment; I hope the Ellen Show will consider them!

chose A.RA.SHI. i think it embodies arashi well and it's a song that can be easily listened/danced to XD

here's what i wrote (after trying several times to keep it at a 1500-character essay >_<):

Arashi (嵐 meaning "storm") is one of Japan's top music groups right now. It is comprised of 5 talented young men namely 大野智 (ohno satoshi or 'riida' [leader]), 櫻井翔 (sakurai sho or 'sho'), 相葉雅紀 (aiba masaki or 'aiba-chan'), 二宮和也 (ninomiya kazunari or 'nino'), and 松本潤 (matsumoto jun or 'matsujun').

Arashi made their debut on 1999-09-15 in Hawaii. From then on Arashi has been engaged in different activities besides singing and dancing such as their own TV shows, movies (NINO starred in clint eastwood's film - LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA), ads, stage plays and concerts.

They broke more records during their 10th year anniversary (2009), when they were able to dominate Japan's ORICON charts, topping the CD singles category, the CD album category and the DVD-Bluray category. With this feat, oricon also awarded them as the artist with the most sales of 2009.

Arashi indeed continues to create a storm not only in their beloved Japan but also around the world!

I hope that if Ellen's show is interested, Johnny's will let her broadcast the music... It would really stink if they decided to control the image by not letting the music be broadcast in America. I know when the anime Kodomo no Omocha came to America, they refused to sell them the license to use the theme song that was a Tokio song, and inside the anime they even had to remove a reference to Tokio.
