Getting Japanese stuff in UK
Sep. 3rd, 2010 09:16 pmHey I dunno if this is allowed, but if it isn't please delete ^^
Well basically I'm going to study in University of York in UK this coming October and would like to ask is there any where in UK where i can buy japanese stuff, like magazine, CD etc. cause i currently live in HK and there's japanese stuff like everywhere, so i would like to know if japanese stuff especially arashi CDs are accessible in UK. Thank you
and if anyone who is also living/going to live in UK i wouldn't mind making friends to fangirl/boy about arashi ><

Date: 2010-09-03 03:44 pm (UTC)Short of going to something like the MCM Expo in London or there's Japan Centre in London as well but outside of London it's really only anime/manga stuff. Goods for Arashi or pretty much any Japanese music artist is non-existent (of course I could be looking in the wrong places)

Date: 2010-09-03 04:57 pm (UTC)There's also DVDs, CDs and photobooks in JP Books but mostly just Arashi, and usually their newer stuff. I've not seen much News/Kanjani8/Kat-tun. But the staff are happy to order anything in for you if you ask. The stuff is really expensive though, because of shipping. The latest tour DVD's in there right now for about £60 I think.
I lived in Leeds (right by York) before moving to London, and never found anywhere to get magazines or CDs.... The only thing you could do from up North is order online from JapaCen or JP Books, I guess. They do magazine subscriptions and deliveries, so you could check that out here: http://www.japancentre.com/ and here: http://www.jpbooks.co.uk/
Good luck moving to England! I hope you enjoy it here~

ARASHI!']
I'm currently studying in an all-girls boarding school up in surrey and since I'm in like 6th form I can go to London and stuff on the weekends[YES!!!XD] so I was also wondering for like any like suggestions for good places to get JE stuff XD

Date: 2010-09-03 05:32 pm (UTC)i wanted to find a good starting point for you and what better way than to find a japanese community within york or, better still, within the university. so i did some googling for you and i found out that the university of york has a japanese society club... i think this might be a good starting point for you if you have any enquiries about anything japanese. i guess the people within the club would have the information that you need, so they are definitely the right people to go to :)
i know it's not much... but hope that helps! :) good luck and all the best! :)

Date: 2010-09-03 07:28 pm (UTC)For cds and dvds, there's Mitsukoshi! You have to go downstairs to see it. However it is really expensive. It's ridiculous! It's far cheaper to order from online, if you order from Yesasia then you don't get customs taxed and it will save you a lot of money.

Date: 2010-09-04 05:20 pm (UTC)Be sure to walk on the city walls. It's really fun and you can see lots of the city. It's really easy to get anywhere from York on the train too. Good luck there, I enjoyed studying at the uni.
