[MOD] A few tweaks and changes
Sep. 15th, 2010 06:34 pmIt's been a while since we've had a proper mod post here in the community with actual changes, but this is very important so I hope you will all take a quick look and note what has changed.
[ + ] New Tag
I've added a new tag called other: where to buy, which as the name suggests should be used for all posts regarding where you can find Arashi goods in a certain part of the world. I will try to go through the archives and tag previous related posts when I have the time, so please, if you're looking for goods where you live or will be visiting, do check the tag first, not to mention
johnnys_outlet and this slightly outdated but still sound masterpost from
news_jpop.
[ - ] Anonymous commenting
This is a big one. I've received several emails and PMs from community members regarding the increasing animosity from people who post anonymously for any reason. Anon commenting is a remnant of the original community, back before I came on board as the maintainer. While there are definitely reasons why anonymous commenting may be beneficial for some - those who don't own journals, or those who are afraid to voice their true opinions under their own journal - there are also downsides to it, and given the number of complaints and concern raised by various members regarding this issue, I have decided to remove anonymous commenting for a trial run of one month. A post will be made at that point to poll everyone and see whether you prefer the comm with or without the function.
[ - ] "Wank" posts
Posts that are obviously made to incite wank such as hate memes will be now be banned from the community as well. Again, they were originally allowed as the earlier maintainers had been heavy endorsers - a bit of a tradition in the community, so to speak - but after taking into account the concern of several members and also the fact that it does contradict another rule (the "no bashing" rule, to be exact), I've decided to do away with the tag and will no longer allow such posts in the future.
[ x ] Reminders
These are not changes, but customary reminders for everyone to please read the rules. There are still many request and graphics posts made to the community even to this day. As a community member, it is up to you to read the rules listed in the profile and make sure you are familiar with them before making a post to ensure that your post will not be rejected or deleted. On that note, posts that start or end with "Mods, if this is inappropriate/not allowed, feel free to delete it" will also no longer be allowed. I admit I've been lax about enforcing it so far, but it is actually part of the rules and will be adhered to more strictly from now on.
Like always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to leave a comment here or PM me if you prefer more privacy. I know this is quite a lot to take in, but I hope this will help
arashi_on improve into a better community for everyone involved. Thanks!

Date: 2010-09-15 11:20 pm (UTC)Users taking advantage of anon posting seem to "get away" with their views expressed and hence, no ownership are attached to such opinions.
Thanks for taking a big step forward, even if its just for a trial run.

^v^ And Happy Arashi Day! (again Aloha time XDDD)
Personally, I don't like anon postings of any kind.

Date: 2010-09-16 11:26 am (UTC)I had assessed each option first before going with the decision that would be preferred by a larger amount of people, and also beneficial to the community. Plus, like I mentioned in the post, it seems counterproductive to enforce a "no bashing" rule in the community, only to allow posts that link hate memes where people-- well, hate on the group, among others.

Date: 2010-09-16 02:07 am (UTC)Omigosh, you're listening to Open Happiness! ♥ I love that song! So muuuch.I didn't really mind the anon posting but I think it's good that you disabled it. About the wank posts/entries, I don't really mind either.
Thanks for the hard work and thank you for telling us about the changes and improvements! =)

Date: 2010-09-16 07:42 am (UTC)About the tagging system, could it be better that all posts must include tags before approval? The members can edit or add the tags themselves if they aren't any (as I've done several times for yamakaze's updates) but this option should be made known on the profile/tagging/faqs so everyone can help make the posts more organized.

Date: 2010-09-16 12:42 pm (UTC)finally there is someone doing something against it.
I dont know whether I did that when I posted soemthing, but it certainly gets annoying when you read that sentence every two or three posts.
For the anon posting, I'd like it to be kept, necause sometimes there are things to say which I personally am too shy to say out lous (this my be just me, but still... :/)
Of course, we (in that case, you) have to find a solution which is good for the whole comm.
as for hate memes... I would not care about them being posted here, even IF it contradicts the 'no bashing' rule. Well, you already said what you think of that matter.
anyways, I like how this comm is maintained and love who peaceful it is here :) good work!

Date: 2010-09-17 11:24 pm (UTC)i agree with your changes, as i was always annoyed with some of the anon comments made...
all in all, i think the comm runs pretty smoothly and happily, which is the way it should be for a comm dedicated to arashi (in my opinion, at least) ^__^
i don't post often here but if/when i do, i'll try to remember to tag correctly too XDD
thanks for your hard work!
