according to this article, arashi are nominated in the Billboard Music Japan Awards....

World Music Award - the Billboard JAPAN Music Awards 2010 - Is now revealed to be held on February 06, 2011!

The award ceremony will bring together artists of various genres, and give you exclusive live performances. The award ceremony will be awarded to top Billboard JAPAN 1 year chart "Chart category", and music fans voted "Artist category" consists of.

The department "artist" who is nominated, Namie Amuro, Arashi, AKB48, EXILE, Kaela Kimura, Justin Bieber, Kana Nishino, Hamasaki Ayumi, JUNSU / JEJUNG / YUCHUN.

Norah Jones, PE'Z their jazz divisions, Tsuzii Nobuyuki, VAMPS, HY, has been announced as the nominated in the independent category. The event will be held at the Fuji NEXT (CS) and will be broadcast live from Tokyo.

i read that JE acts aren't able to participate in these kinds of awards? hopefully someone can correct me if i'm wrong. :) regardless, it's great that arashi are nominated!

Smap, Kat-tun and HSJ are also nominated though, so I don't think JE acts are restricted from participating in these awards. IDK, maybe it's this year that they're allowed?

As far that I knew, they can be listed for the award just that they didn't allowed to attend the event. So, even they win anything, they can never get to accept it by hands. Well, this is what I know and I guess I missed some more important details about it :X

if i'm not mistaken, i've read somewhere that they did receive the same award last year but the didn't attend the event.. so maybe they can participate but cannot attend the event

arent they allowed to participate if the award is based on sales? the Billboard awards should be based on sales, rather than voting, since thats how they do it in the US too

yep, I heard the same... something among the lines that they can't participate on popularity/vote awards but the are allowed to participate on sales awards.
I don't know which kind of award is Billboard though ^^UUU

It's great that Arashi is nominated. I have read somewhere that they cannot participate if other JE's are nominated too. I hope someone more knowledgeable can explain things for us all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if these Billboard awards are run the same way as the US one, they're based on sales alone. So if the artist is the top selling one in different categories (singles/albums etc.) then they automatically win. I think Arashi was nominated last year, but they didn't attend.
