arashi_onHi everyone, I've got a little announcement that may be interest to some of you. I have recently learned the sad news that fansubber ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-syndicated.gif)
newshfan will be closing her site for good on October 1st. Unfortunately, it's the unscrupulous-fan-uploading-to-streaming-sites pattern, which is just upsetting. newshfan is a longtime Johnny's fan and subber. I got to know and love her work through my former NEWS obsession. She has contributed literally hundreds and hundreds of subbed clips to the fandom. While she mostly focuses on groups other than Arashi, she has subbed a plethora of Arashi clips (or clips of other groups that include small Arashi appearances), including ones you may have already seen - Nino & Sho's surprise appearance at a NEWS con MC, Tegoshi on VSA, etc.
I encourage everyone to A) go to her lj and click the Arashi tag while you still can - I've been an obsessed Arashi fan for a year and a half now, and there are dozens and dozens of their clips I haven't seen, not to mention all the the other groups' clips. And B) thank her profusely for her contributions! I don't know the exact reason why she is totally leaving the fandom, but recently she did have problems with people not following the rules she had about sharing Ryo's drama Joker subtitles. She had them so very fast!!!
She has so many things subbed that I'm so impressed and thankful! It's a pity really! :(

Of course it sucks for those who relied on her for subs that she's closing down because people broke rules, but I don't think it's a huge loss for the Arashi fandom at least.

Being rude to other subbers (as I concluded from the comments here) or being rude to people in general because of some idiots not being able to read rules does not solve anything. Talking to the uploaders in such a way does not scratch them in any way.
I tried 'talking' to them, which led to changed or deleted comments, and to blocked IP-adressesWhat I want to say is that her attitude was not the nicest.Also, I just express my opinion here.
Bad for those who relied on her.

but I don't think it's a huge loss for the Arashi fandom at least.
*agrees* Some of her subs are minor, and luckily most (if not all) fansubbers in the sparkling fandom are really nice :D

Date: 2010-09-25 06:38 pm (UTC)I mean, honestly, I'm pretty understanding with some but saying that, keeping her journal free-for-all, and allowing people to stream and then complaining when her subs are uploaded doesn't really get my sympathy button pressed.
I hate that there's all this mess because of streaming and whatnot, but in this scenario, I don't want to be a hypocrite and pretend I'm not relieved to see her and her negative energy go.

On the uploading issues. It's dangerous for subbers when people don't follow the rules. I totally understand why some Arashi subbers monitor access to their subs.

I don't really think the Arashi fandom will miss her but I do feel for NewS fans. From what I heard, she's one of their major subbers. Good thing I'm not really interested in NewS.

Date: 2010-09-25 10:03 pm (UTC)I'm actually really sad to see her go, in spite of her comments, because like puffymoto said, it's a sign of where the fandom is heading. It was hard enough getting subbed videos three years ago and now it's hard just finding raws. I don't know if it's because new fans (or maybe old fans) don't seem to get that subbers are being very nice subbing and sharing these clips because it's not easy and HELLO, they're not getting paid to do it so seeing someone rip off their work does not make them happy. Next to that, they could get in trouble with Johnny's for doing it. Sorry about the rant, it's just that things like this make me angry.

Date: 2010-09-25 10:32 pm (UTC)When you put it that way, I understand now... -.- I'm honestly scared/irritated of the way Johnny Jimusho has almost completely obliterated Arashi from youtube. I feel like it's a matter of time before they start cracking on other fan shared networks.
But I really have hope that as long as there are fans, this will never happen. :D I've been around long enough that this cycle of losing sources and then people finding other sources happens almost every two years. :P
By the way, I think EVERY fans know that subbing is very HARD WORK. We all appreciate it because without them, fandom would die. But being rude is also not nice. You don't need to suck up to someone who is being rude to you in real life even if he/she is your boss. But anyway, like you, I really hate when others take someone's else hard work or stream it to youtube. It's just not right.
If only Johnny Jim./ Japanese networks stop being so anal and allow subbing videos to make their stars more popular round the world.... -.- (sigh)

Date: 2010-09-27 10:56 am (UTC)come to think of it, i don't know how i could maintain being a fan, or i may still be a fan, but i wouldn't be able to relate to arashi thoroughly if there are no subbed works. i may have admired them as musicians but subbed works has introduced them to us fans as persons. i'm sure non-Japanese speaking fans could relate to that.
i hope leechers stay away from this fandom or any other fandom. they can't understand that many people are cooperating and working together just to keep this fandom safe and alive.
