ahh~~ it takes long already finding the right pictures and captions. [sigh] xD I do use the sharpen though, when i feel it's needed.

sometimes they look sharpened, sometimes they don't. if you're afraid of oversharpening, you should definitely try out the fade sharpen feature, which can be accessed like this:
filter>>sharpen
edit >> fade sharpen >> adjust to amount of sharpening you want.
that way icons can be perfectly sharpened, instead of horribly oversharpened or sadly blurry.

yeah =/ sometimes picture quality is unavoidably horrible, but then you get to have fun with the smudge tool! *_* here, I've tried it out on one of the icons you made:

to just a quick cleanup :O would have been much cleaner without your text. :D but yup, the blur tool can help you when directly sharpening is too hard.

likewise, if you're worried about oversharpening, one thing to try is the soft light tool. it can clean up large chunks of one color like in this one:

well :o the captions are part of your unique, particularly quirky sense of humor but I'd advise you to play with more fonts, colors and layer settings.

for example,

the different font brings it more of a punch. I added a light gradient to play with the white font. personally i found the crop a little weird but :D;; to each their own.

oh XD thanks for reminding me! just a few more things I wanted to teach you:

1. there was words all around, and I can't really remove them. so yeah. [cough] ^.^;;

A) Ah. if the scan was watermarked, it does get hard. but a lot of places post scans without watermarks! for example, boys_paper is a great resource for large scans without watermarks. Also, since Arashi has such a wonderful fanbase, good, clean scans of recent pictures are particularly easy to come by, like here ()! :)
B) If it can't be helped and the picture just doesn't have a clean scan, then the clone tool's your best friend! and if not the clone tool, try the blur tool and a soft light layer. your best bet is to check out icon tutorial communities for more information; there's a wealth of things out there for you to learn!

2. Although I chose the same font so people knew it was mine.

Well, that's a bit silly! You silly girl! lol a font doesn't belong to anybody but its creator ;) and a lot of people use the same fonts over and over again. Incredibly popular fonts to use on icons include times new roman, arial black, arial narrow, century gothic, amadine, garamond, uncletypewriter, violation, decadentia, dyspepsia, hurricane, impact... the list goes on and on! Limiting yourself to one font really limits creativity and image-customization. some cursive fonts are great for classy icons! some block fonts are great for really striking icons, etc. for example:

a quick change of font and a quick change of icon size/shape makes a huge impact!

3. well! that brings me to tip 3 of this comment! icon size/shape! I must admit that I don't do this nearly enough, but playing around with the dimensions and shape of your icons is also very important! keeps them from looking boring or too mass-manufactured. each icon you make and present to others should demonstrate some of the time and hardwork you've put into it after all, right? :D right!

4. textures!

you mentioned you liked my lighting, and i was really glad to hear that. the lighting is really quick to put in and makes a huge difference from making your icon drab and boring to colorful and full of nice contrasts. check out fresh_makers for more textures!
