I pull back my comforter at one burst, them what I do occasionally, suddenly I do ads. he he he. then i can awake. err.. this year too it’s cold, everybody don’t sleep in sofa, sleep in the bed properly.

i guess being the closing act contributed to some ratings for smap. i can still girigiri watch on when the other 4 members sing, but whenever i hear nakai sing i think i'm gonna cry. lol

most people probably tuned in for the results
for me, my family and i are music majors, so a lot of the people had us cringing and we were really not impressed with smap and my mom walked out of the room

I do agree that SMAP aren't the best singers no where close. But neither can you say that most ppl probably tuned in for the results.

If you check out previous kohaku ratings, the final act doesn't always get the highest performance ratings (even last year's one. DCT got the highest and they were 2 last, followed by SMAP as the 3 last and then Kitajima Sabura as the last performance). The ratings then peaked again at results time.

[but still, shiro won again]

@Real Live report: they have a point. Arashi as MC did appear all throughout the show and basically didn't generate much interest anymore for their actual performance. they may be out of the top10 ranking of ratings, but i'm yet to read a bad review of their MC skills, even from their most ardent critics. as a fan, i take comfort in that.the boys did a good job.

Real live report has apoint BUT but they should have taken consideration too that Smap is veteran of kouhaku with 18th appearance of that show and w/ a record of 6 highest rated in total while Arashi is just newbies and certainly less exposed than smap. Geez, comparison again made me cringe.

sorry but just to be accurate (and i love my boys dearly and I will accuse of trolling my fandom again. I AM PROUD OF ARASHI AND THEY DID VERY WELL) according to another version of Kohaku report by sanspo ( http://www.sanspo.com/geino/news/110105/gnj1101050506011-n1.htm ) their ratings were 43%, not 43.3%. Ikimonogakari had gotten 45.2% "Ikimono gakari raised 2.2% from Arashi". Unfortunately, Furusato was one of the lowest point in the first half.

I'm just stating the facts. Tbh my heart dropped like a stone when I saw the graft with that huge plunge during Furusato but it doesn't matter. They did their best and I'm always proud of them :)

I know fans most of the times can't see thing objectively and give excuses when things doesn't go our way but see it from the bright side. There's a possibility we'll get to rest our wallets a bit if they realized the overexposure is decreasing their value.

i can't answer your question since i don't live in Japan but they were overexposed during the whole stretch leading to and after the New Year celebrations with a number of special programs featuring them.

AKB48 is the in thing for 2010 like Arashi was in 2009. Even if people think they are overexposed, they fulfill an equal demand.

I don't think Arashi is a fad. I mean, they have been going strong for the past 4 years now. 2007 was really the start of it all but 2008 was when we saw the results.

application for Kouhaku audience came before the announcement of Arashi as MC. just saying.
and tabloids do what they do to sell. and digging and flinging dirt about famous people sell. when they couldn't get that mud of the "dead AV actress screwing 4/5 of arashi" stick for long, you bet they're going to spread this "arashi-didn't deliver expected ratings compared to blahblah" as much as they can. i'm actually expecting more stink to come out in the near future. arashi seems to be in vacation though, which is good.
even the fandom and the fangirls need to have a rest. chillax.

i am so tired with the rating game and another SMAP and Arashi comparison T_T
this is really annoying...
why can't they just let Arashi be Arashi without the need to make them as the next SMAP who can get high rating everytime.
the boys just started to build their fanbase and growing their popularity compare to SMAP which already have a giant fanbase from all this years they rules Japan so to expect Arashi to overthrown the king in short moment is ridiculous :p

to be honest ive always been boggled with arashi ratings...even now that they are insanely popular, it seems that their shows cannot break the 15% ratings ( except for dramas)...i dunno but i think the japanese population doesnt watch it on real time tv...

I actually think 12-13% is quite stable.

VS Arashi tends to be very stable but Himitsu no Arashi- it depends on the guest. Arashi ni Shiyagare gets the highest ratings out of all their programs.

the way the reports wrote is like saying all the media expects arashi to get the highest ratings like they are gods and can work miracles or something, and now that they didn't and moreover it's their senpai SMAP who did, they are gonna be bashed up like no tomorrow. i know tv ratings is all that matters when it comes to tv shows, no matter how good it is or how hard they work for it's useless when the ratings doesn't go up. but i'm sure the public know better, even though i shouldn't compare but the performace level between smap and arashi differs too much. anyone could tell and by now probably much of the japanese population has been stunned by ohno satoshi's greatness lol.

it's amazing that they got 6 gold disc awards, and i couldn't agree more with the NHK research on arashi's charm. their ordinary is their appeal and they are even capable of bringing families together and solving communication breakdown between different generations. and i'm sure there are so much more that would take forever to analyze, but i don't think there's any other group out there which is anywhere near this, at least to me

I feel like Kouhaku is losing it's importance and all the producers are trying to find a way to save it.
