Hello! I'm flying to Singapore for a vacation on April 27 and will be staying until May 3. I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask:
  • The April 7 showing of Gantz in Malaysia already seems to be definite, and I wonder if I'll still be able to catch it. How long do they show movies in Malaysia? Going there isn't in my original itinerary since I'll be traveling alone, I don't know anyone in Malaysia, and I'm not sure if my budget can still handle it. However, I'd love to watch Gantz and I'm still frustrated over the fact that the Singapore release date isn't final yet. :( If ever it will still be showing in Malaysia by that time, I plan to go to a city/town that's near to Singapore. If I'm not mistaken Johor Bahru is one such place. Please correct me if I'm wrong, or if you can suggest other movie houses that are near to Singapore I'd really appreciate that.

  • For those in Singapore, are there any places that sell Arashi merchandise other than Kinokuniya (for photobooks and the like) and HMV (for CDs and DVDs)? Also, if there are any other places in Singapore you'd recommend for me to visit, do tell.
Thank you so much! *bows*

well, i doubt that jb's city square will show the movie. i think GSC will show it though ^^ usually movies are played for 1 moth from the release date, and if it have great response, it'll play for 2 months ^^ GSC in JB would be at Pelangi Leisure Mall.

Hope this can help you ^^

JJ + Stefanie's CDs can be found in all if not most Music/DVD stores and outlets. You can try Kinokunia for Japanese mechandise, HMV for their music, kinda limited though. Have fun in Singapore!

jap merchandise is all but nonexistent here in Singapore =.= the Hallyu wave is HUGE haha. Occasionally you can find some Arashi photos and stuff in Comics Connection branches but it's really pretty rare - but if you're into Yamapi he's a bit more common ^^ HMV is heavily heavily overpriced and seriously not worth it for the Arashi CDs - it's definitely cheaper getting it online. JJ and Stephanie's CDs can be found in pretty much any shop which sells CDs (:

That CD Shop also has a pretty good, albeit small selection of Jap artists, but again if you find Arashi you're pretty lucky, it's quite touch-and-go, but def more worth it than buying from HMV.

Kino magazines sell out really really fast, especially the idol magazines, so try and schedule your visit near the shipping date! Kino ships magazines like Popolo, Wink-up, Myojo and duet on the second week of the month, you can usually find them by Wedneday or Thursday.

Hope you have a good time in Singapore! USS is awesome (:

I'm from KL and i think movies in Malaysia usually shows for 2 weeks depending on the popularity of the movie and also whether is there any other blockbusters coming out in the following week. I'm not optimistic that Gantz would go as far as 2 weeks though. Probably about 1 week with very limited time slot considering what a niche market the target audiences are. Hope you find this useful! :) And have fun in Singapore! Its super hot now btw. i nearly died walking around. :O

I really hope that it's not going to be showing only for 2 weeks. I'm going out of Malaysia for work in April and will be back on the third or forth week of April. :(

I'm praying Gantz will still be showing when I'm back.

there's a shop, MISE, which sold JE stuff. I ever go there when have business trip to S'pore, but since 2 or 3 years ago have already closed when go there again :(( so many JE stuff like uchiwas even its price so expensive. But I think my information is useless ne cos they've closed *lol*

By the way, you have to go Kino there. Kino in there is really so early & so fast in selling Japan magazines. Really differ with Kino in my country. Even have 4 branches of Kino, but very slow in magzines. It needed 2-3 months later to get Japan magazines here after realeased in Japan :((

Have a nice vacation ^-^

i wouldn't go HMV to get CDs. all too overpriced. umm.. if you're looking for drama DVDs, TS has all kinds of moving sales, etc, where prices per drama ranges from 5 to 13 bucks a set.

That CD Shop.. hmm.. i haven't spotted any johnny's cds there yet..

i know some Popular bookshop outlets have JE cds. eg, the one in Toa Payoh has Kinki Kids, Tackey and Tsubasa, WaT, and a few others, but i didn't see Arashi.. T.T the prices there are good, tho.

pity Sembawang Music closed down..they used to sell all of Arashi's cds, etc for like, 20bucks a piece? THEY CLOSED BEFORE I GOT JUNBAITED. T.T

MISE is still available online, but i don't have their url. Comics Connections has JE pics, but u'll have to search around.

if you'd like, i can show u around singapore during your stay here. ^.^ bored with nothing to do during holidays, would like to meet other Arashi fans, and meanwhile (my real motive) get out of the house and stalk around for Arashi goods. xD~!

TS is a chain of video shops, found almost everywhere. ^^

the one at Toa Payoh is currently having a moving sale, where i bought 7 sets of DVDs at 33 dollars total. CHA CHING! yamada tarou's money-saving genes are rubbing off on me.

Sembawang used to be a megastore that went bankrupt. at ang mo kio, u say? o.O i'm gonna go check it out. shall spend 4 hours hiking around the area in my brand new hiking boots.

i know cash studios has reasonable rates for karaoke, and has about every single Arashi song including solos. ^^

ahh.. ang mo kio has a lot of cheap shops. there's a TS branch there too! ^.^

geylang has nice durian sellers. the best quality comes from there, provided u know where to get them. ha.
but in geylang, alternate streets are "red-light" districts. so be a little more careful there.

i'm definitely interested in a meet-up. show my singaporean hospitality. altho there's not much here to do. haha.

alternatively, for arashi goods, you might want to look at http://community.livejournal.com/sg_jesales

Some sellers do meet ups at train stations for the goods. (: you can try enquiring there.

you're welcome! hope you'll enjoy your stay here. (:

And regarding Kino and their magazines arrival date, you can check it online actually, about a week before it arrives, they'll announce it.

Hi...Being a malaysian, i seldom watch movie in the cinema due to 1 major problem...CENSORSHIP! I can guarantee you that watching Gantz in Malaysia will be really frustrating cause most of the bloody scene and "naked" scene will all be censor. It's not worth to watch it in Malaysia...well this is just my personal view.

My sis who went singapore recently said the Lion King stage show is fantastic. Maybe u should try watching it. And u can try visitng the new Universal studio.

Hope u have a great time! :)

I'm pretty sure GANTZ is being released on May 5th in S'pore. My recommended place to go in S'pore is the zoo cos Aiba came to do a TSD shooting here once. You can feed and see a lot of the animals that Aiba interacted with. There's also a maid cafe in Funan Digital Life Mall but it's still pretty new and the maids haven't really gotten into their roles yet.

Do head to Bugis markets for cheap goods and there's a $2 shop here called Daiso where everything is from Japan. Not so much a must do, but it's there is you're interested :)

April 7.
Censoring, though I hate it that is a fact. Malaysia tends to be particularly conservative about certain things *sigh*

Hello,

I am actually selling some pretty Arashi posters, and individual posters as well.

Do contact me if you wish to take a look. As far as I know, only Kino has arashi stuff. You could try the Kino at Liang Court (Clarke Quay MRT) as Liang Court is our "japanese shopping mall" which has many many Japanese shopping there. So I suppose there could be more Japanese items in their Kino. I bought an Arashi mag for SGD3 only! (well, it was an old issue, but owell, it was worth it!)
