Gantz Screening Date in Malaysia & Singapore

It seems the 7th April screening date is not confirmed yet. I've just checked GSC site for Gantz and it is no longer listed in their April "Coming Soon" list. However, Gantz details is still there with 07.04.2011 as the release date. They have updated the booking details for  7th April but no Gantz in sight.

Hopefully the screening will go as planned. Confirmation is needed for those who have been planning trip to Malaysia around the dates. Fyi, ENCORE is the one responsible for distribution of Gantz around South East Asia with Singapore as their HQ and Golden Screen as their theater. If anyone knows any further updates (or have contacts with the distributor) please share your info.

EDIT: They listed it in "Next Change" tab. I think that means they'll update soon. Although, I'm quite disappointed there's virtually no promotion about Gantz screening in Malaysia.... Anybody seen Gantz posters up at the cinemas?

EDIT 2: I saw a reply on Encore's facebook confirming Singapore release date to be 12 May. Malaysia and Brunei is still listed as 7th April.

In case anyone's interested for updates, the Malaysia & Singapore movie distributor has an official Facebook page here (http://www.facebook.com/gantzmovie?sk=info). To quote the page's moderator/admin: "The movie is passed PG13 with only 2 very minor cuts in Malaysia." This actually surprises me since Malaysia seems to be very strict on censorship. (Though I really wouldn't know since I live in a different country. :P)

No problem. :) I have a question, though. How long are movies normally shown in Malaysia? I posted the same question previously in the comm and I got conflicting answers. Some say movies are shown for a month, others say 2 weeks. And that Gantz might even be on for a shorter time because demand isn't that high. I'm really confused. I want to know if I'll be able to catch it during my trip to Singapore on the last week of April.

2 weeks are usually for local movies.Iit is to make sure that cinemas in Msia support our local movies. For international movies, it depends. If it get high demand, then it will be run in cinema for a long time. But, it is usually cinemas in big cities like GSC Mid Valley, TGV KLCC o GSC in Johor Bharu. I hope it clears u a bit!

Thank you very much! If ever I do decide to watch it, I'll be going to GSC in Johor Bahru since that seems to be quite near the border between Malaysia in Singapore, and I'll be coming from there. I hope I'll be able to catch it.

Is taking a cab really the best way around Malaysia? I'll be going to Johor Bahru from Singapore by bus, but the checkpoint in Johor Bahru seems to be a bit far from GSC so I'm quite sure I can't walk. I'm quite scared to take a cab because I'm going alone and I don't know how to speak Malay (if I get a cab driver who can't converse in English though I highly doubt that).

Emm, I would say that it is not really the best way around Msia but since u'll be in Johor Bahru, the only choice that u have is either to take a bus or cab. I'm not living in in Johor Bahru though, so I can't help u to tell which bus to take and from where. I guess taking a cab is the only option left. But, I can suggest u to let say, once you arrive to the checkpoint in Johor Bharu, maybe you can ask some of the officers there about how to go to GSC from there by bus. Maybe they can help you.

About the language, I'm pretty sure that in big cities like Johor Bahru, most cab driver can understand at least a simple English. So as long as u keep ur words simple, I believe they can understand you :)

I managed to call them and ask about the screening date. It's confirmed to be April 7th but only on selected cinemas. The selected cinema list will be available next week. To be safe, Mid Valley usually takes international movies. But yeah she said it's confirmed. So I guess those who want to proceed with the plan can be happy now.

Well i live in Kuching,Sarawak, Malaysia. Yesterday i've seen Gantz poster already been up in our local MBO Cinema located at spring shopping center. But they didn't put up the date of release yet. I will check again through online. And I've check in the newspapers other cinema(Lotus cinema, riverside majestic Kuching) will be playing gantz on the 7th april 2011, so its confirm then. Anybody who's planning to come here can schedule during that time. I hope that there no changes in this few days.
