Japan PR footage of Arashi made by The Japan Tourism Agency is topical as “Shame of Japan”> Message from Japan has been just announced 11 of last month by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and The Japan Tourism Agency. Arashi who cooperate as Tourism oriented country navigator they cooperated since April, (??) appears promotional video. each member visits province of Japan and meow taking welcoming cat pose. I think it’s fine to appoint Arashi. but I feel strange when I watch this promotional video. the content is members of Arashi eats local foods, enjoy local dance, join to having drinks, appeal warmth of tourism site and charm. and mimic “meow” holding welcoming cat. this is hard to express intentionality by right. this looks not tourism PR, looks like Arashi PR. on BBS there’re opinions like that; “this could be effective if targets are junior high and high school students.” “no style, not organized.” “this purpose is not introduce japan, this is just Arashi PV.” “I wonder Arashi doesn’t s\feel shame.” “ at least this is not video to appear Japan to foreign countries.” caustic criticized on the net. this is not only Japanese think so. foreigner feel a sense of discomfort. this was introduced in the article Newsweek Japan edition. the column by French reporter in Tokyo. “the country that Arashi meow that foreigners don’t want to come.” this has a decent opinion that The Japan Tourism Agency can’t object. this laments that misconception of The Japan Tourism Agency that charm foreigner with this footage. he wrote previously column “ The Japan Tourism Agency PR web site is shame of Japan” he tries to head off “fool wonderful own country.” in future you might see it when you travel overseas. how will you think that time? ( what I thought first time I see this, this could work only in Asia….)

Forgot it was Otonoha day. vol.87 title: cool of summer evening. Hello, it’s me, the other day, on site shooting of Himitsu no Arashi-chan. new project, “member hosts member” was established. this time project “Aiba-kun hosts Sakurai”. during journey. we chat about old days. it was the topic we 2 have been to deep forest and psychic on-site shooting. after on-site shooting, when we were walking in deep forest toward on-site shooting bus. Aiba-kun saw a man only upper body (a ghost) on stump. (teacher, this guy say scary thing!) Aiba: that one. I still remember how he was clearly. Sakurai: “is… is that so….” A: “he stared toward us. he was in costume of taxi driver…” co….come up!! new information even now!! Sakurai: “whaaat!? I have not heard this yet!! why you haven’t told so!!” A: “because. if I vocalize, this reminds me, I couldn’t say it.” O is that so… Sakurai: “I…I see.” “well, that time was so scary” soon after we got excited again, at moment Aiba-kun clings to the wall back of him. “Bwwoon” suddenly speaker next Aiba-kun made big noise. only one of 2. however it was not turn on. suddenly. it made noise. scary!! well, it was seriously scary. (your expression of sound Bwwoon!!, this cuts horrors in half.) on site shooting that has started with such horror episode.(sorry to make scary story as if nothing happened.) it was reaaaaaaaaally fun. it was so fun to make me anxious if the work could be so fun. those comments on 'message from japan' were kinda harsh. I think arashi do not have any intention to make it like - an arashi cm and not japan tourism cm. the cm's message is clear - japan is a fun and safe place to go and that its people are grateful for the love and support they received from other countries after the march earthquake..

ah... I thought that might be the problem with the video... people in other countries wouldn't understand the "nyan" thing (also a little weird in Japan as it is), plus most of the spots and specialties they showed, not many people overseas would know what they are... I think it works fine a domestic tourism ad though. But I think it was well made and Arashi did a good job, so I don't agree with criticism of that. Oh well. I hope they realize it's not Arashi's fault and just hire new pr people who are more internationally minded.

The people must be blind for not reading the sub! I remember ohno did mention about what the neko(cat) means~

cause doing "nya", countries that aren't pretty much influence by Japan, won't understand. But aren't they trying their best to promote their country in a cuter and friendly way? Have you seen a promotional vid of a country that is so dull? It's hard to find such vid! and even if you found it, would you even want to visit the country(if you don't know that country) after watching it?

Lastly, like what yamakaze067 says, i really think this only works for asia!

In CNN, where i see Tourism ads by other countries as well, they usually either use celebrities or just normal people to promote and showcase the beauty of their country. In Arashi's latest tourism cm, they were showing that you can still walk around Japan without your skin melting off, that there are areas that weren't affected by the earthquake, that Japan is not a wasteland. That's the kind of 'safe' i'm talking about and not the one measured by the exact level of radiation the fukushima nuclear powerplant was emitting.
Key word: TOURISM.

i don't think people will get the same idea when they only see the video once, since the target of this tourism video is whole world. For tourism video you need to grab the feeling of the viewer as maximal as you can, it will be good if by seeing even once, people will be interested to visit the country. And based on the location where the video was aired, mostly weren't the place where you can watch the video on ease and i wasn't lucky enough to have a chance to see the video in CNN ~

if it's just as you say that they show that japan is safe to be visited, to put it simple what i think is that the video is half-hearted in promoting japan. The video is indeed showing that japan is already secure, but the advertisement of the tourism object is far than enough (at least for me and my friends). It's not too interesting for me, first time i watched i was just "aaa, it's good" and it was ended like that. The video isn't attractive as tourism video~ that's why i stated above if they want to inform the world japan is already secure, it'll be better if they doing the tourism invitation and information separately, so they'll be able to focus on the tourism video and make a more attractive tourism video~

For some of my relatives (an uncle and aunt) who saw the cm (didnt know Arashi, they're just 5 random guys, for all they care), they were fascinated to actually see Hokkaido and Kyoto there because they've heard of those places before. They're now scheduled to visit by November.
so i guess it works for some and not for others.

i thought they did the "nya" as a new cultural catch phrase, a new way of identifying (just like always posing with a peace sign or saying "kawaii").
the video's message above all else is that Japan is safe enough a country to visit again. parts of it, at least.
My only fear when it came out was that it maybe was too soon to show it, given that the gov't hasn't exactly solved the nuclear issue yet. But when do they start healingand move on, exactly? The places Arashi showed were places that relied heavily on tourism, and people's livelihood in those areas are being affected because there were almost no tourists since the tragedy struck.

Oh well, there will always be two sides to a story. Yamakaze,if you don't mind me asking, what kind of publication is poucy? is it reputable?

(Warning: total rant cause I'm kinda bored and loved that tourism CM) I'm an Arashi fan, so I'm probably biased, but first off, its obviously not their fault, so those who blame Arashi should be ashamed. The people who say "shouldn't so-and-so feel ashamed of themselves?" should be ashamed at having such a cruel and close-minded attitude towards good intentions.

Secondly, what the deuce. A tourism thing must show the cultural beauty of the country. The end. And that's all that's needed. They went above and beyond by showing different places and having locals interact within the video and showing the cultural activities and festivities, as opposed to mere landmarks. Any tourism thing I've ever seen has been super boring, and this one was honest, beautiful, and inspiring. Those who are in most tourism commercials I always fear are merely hired random people. And for those who don't know them, that might seem the same for Arashi (though them interacting with kids and older adults and dancing in festivities, I seriously cannot see how you can't believe that they aren't having just a little fun), but those who know them know for sure how much they love their country.

That freaking thing showed the beauty and warmth of Japan and if that makes someone uncomfortable, they're obviously just a cruel and cold-hearted person. Even if it were an Arashi PV, they should be so lucky, because it's only their power that can emit such a warmth and brightness.

And it was a short CM, how can it be disorganized when the maneki neki, local attractions by place thing was the obvious organization (-_-) And the maneki neko thing is a good tie-in, yeah, for Asia, since they understand their meaning of welcome, please come in, please bring in good fortune and guests. But I think it's a good educational thing for foreigners because it's in a lot of Asian restaurants in America (it's in Quizno's over here actually XD), though I suppose I'm the only one who notices...

I actually find the CM very convincing. Not because I am an Arashi fan, but because they were able to show, in that very short period of time, that Japan still has a lot to offer even after what happened.
