This morning Sanspo published a short article in regards to Arashi's overall donation to Japan's earthquake relief.
On the 3rd, popular group Arashi has donated to the three main earthquake prefectures a total of around 300 million yen (app. $3.8 million) from royalties of their charity work such as the pocket version of the book "Nippon no Arashi" etc.
The book, which documented the personal experiences of the five members visiting places all over Japan, is the same one that was distributed to around 40,000 elementary, middle, and highschools last autumn with no charge. In store since this June, the book has sold around 420,000 copies.
Among the 300 million yen, around 50 million yen (app. $640,000) total is from the five members' own royalties. In addition to the earnings from the publication, including the earnings from their 3-day charity event "Arashi no Waku Waku Gakkou" that took place at Tokyo Dome in June, they have directly donated 100 million yen to each of the three prefectures on the 2nd of this month.
On Oricon's survey of "Favorite Artist from 20,000 fans" this year, Arashi is ranked 1st place for 2nd time in a row. 2nd and 3rd places were also the same as last year, Ikimono Gakari and Mr. Children respectively.
-------
T/N: About the dates, I believe by the 3rd, it means the donations were officially acknowledged/processed, while the 2nd is when they went to donate. I think the boys have done more than enough, that an acknowledgement of the result of all their efforts is totally appropriate. ♥
Sanspo Article

Date: 2011-11-03 11:20 pm (UTC)Congratulations!!
Also, Jun made a comment about getting 1st on the Oricon list, it was something like, "It doesn't matter if we're first or not, I'm just glad that people are spread our name." More or less, it was just Jun being his awesomely humble self. (to be fair I was in the middle of putting on my make-up and trying not to stab myself in the eye with my eyeshadow brush takes priority. XP~)

Date: 2011-11-04 12:08 am (UTC)I really wish articles like this would mention how the money is donated. Some of the charity organisations have been very incomptent about getting aid to people (not to mention the Japanese government itself) thought I heard JE have donated very needed goods like trucks and generators.
I'd hate to see Arashi's efforts (and those of fans and the general public) not going to where they are needed.
