The thing that gets me is this:

The parts when it's just Arashi have lower ratings.

Now riddle me this: Which parts of Arashi's regular shows have just Arashi in them?

Answer: The first FIVE minutes of the show.

Other than that, there's always a guest around.

So, if we are to believe that just the opening of the show has the lowest ratings....

Isn't that normal for a lot of variety shows? I mean, you probably have people tuning in a bit late because of reasons.

The only other time I can think of when it's just Arashi are the recap/cut parts SP for Shiyagare and the M5 specials, and the M5 specials have higher ratings than the average episode of Himitsu.

I can't even LOL at this because, like this reaching so far they've managed to create a hole in the space time continum.

I think they look at ratings by the minute and there are other smaller sections with just Arashi. For example the "Explore the unknown" segment in Shiyagare and the 10 second challenge in VS Arashi.

But I think the tabloids are just grasping at straws and wrting nonsense. Who knows, they themselves have to write about Arashi in order to sell more copies of their magazine...

I think they audience have always been like that... so.... (? But, I can understand the feeling that Arashi is appearing everywhere and people are getting tired...
I really don't think their popularity is ending, I mean, Smap is still really popular even they released two singles per year.
Altought I honestly believe that Himitsu no Arashi-chan must end now...

Anyway, I will always love Arashi <3 :)

Lots of people have said this before but I don't really care if their popularity drops. In fact, if they can change back some of their shows to their old ones with Aibakaland and those weird experiments and all, I'd be glad. I don't watch HnA anymore, not ever since they only have 2 members each episode. I want all of them together, not 2.

For a group that's supposed to be on the way down, it's funny how their concert tickets and goods are so in demand. So much that said concert tickets are selling at prices you can buy a used vehicle with on the black market. And I have to say that many artists would give anything to have the same ratings Arashi is having in such a stable way. I mean, artists supposedly selling millions have ratings in the single digits. Shouldn't their shows be the ones that need cancelling first?

If there is a decline, then we'll know who the real fans and the posers are. Then again, since this is from a tabloid and everytime Arashi has some kind of event or whatever, rumors come out. I'm still waiting for the SUPERNOVA NEXT TO THE DOOR scandal, it seems to be quite elusive.

first of all, arashi show's current ratings are actually pretty good...stable and consistent which means even if sometimes the format/guests/ contents are lame - they will have a steady veiwership power - thank you fans...

moreover, i have never, and for the life of me i dont think ill ever understand the japanese audience - looking at their ratings, they usually get high spikes when theres cooking segments/ repetitive comedians...et al (whos humor by the way, i cant really get~~but thats just me ;) and when its the super funny episodes and engaging guests, the ratings are just bleh~~and im like, wh...what the heck?

my point is, for fans who are saying they dont care what the stupid tabloids say but are secretly dying inside from worry that arashi's star is dimming - worry not, they are still as popular as ever - even more so i would say. tv ratings are very unreliable, easily manipulated and does not directly reflect popularity status.(exhibit a - Nakai's Ataru vs Ohno's Kagiheya).

however, however and there is a big HOWEVER, i think their tv show writers are becoming lazy and arent thinking outside of the box more when it comes to their show's formats and content - i mean, these were the boys who willingly wore stockings over their head, put mustard on their cheeks and wore nipple shirts - MAKE use of their comedic chemistry and professionalism and the fact that they will be game for almost anything .

While I do agree with all your points, I guess the biggest setback with their shows is that it's on golden time. Back then they could practically do (and say) anything because their shows were shown late at night and they could care less about propriety and stuff. But yeah, I do agree their writers should start thinking outside the box.

I don't care if Arashi loses their popularity either. If it means I get midnight shows like Shukudai-kun and they get to wear nipple shirts again then I'm not complaining! :))

well the things with Arashi shows now is they do almost the same things every week and Himitsu which is once my most fav among the 3 is becoming my least fav especially see like TBS no longer even trying with the show anymore^^;
anyway they are still considered pretty stable anyway :P

anyway like Yamakaze said i don't care about popularity, of course im so happy Arashi is getting more and more recognize and the most underrated member like Ohno before they become national idol able to become equally popular as the other 4 now which make me very happy and he is given more important works as well such as leading drama role<3
but if their popularity do going down im sure they still have lot of loyal fans and supporter staying around, only the casual fans will leave and the true fans stay :P
and even if they losing their golden slow who know they gonna be back doing super awesome late night show again hopefully which show how awesome they are unlike now every show is only about the guest most of the time (well maybe it gonna take few more years for them to maintain the show :P)
i don't think SMAP and Eito show is that high either though i am happy they doing well and Eito is like in the peak of their popularity now and gaining many fans especially this year so not surprised they doing good but Arashi still doing great even after so many years on the top :P

and once their popularity declining i guest i am one of the happy campers that might have a hope to even buy their concert ticket and go to Japan someday but it still seem super impossible now and they still selling as good as previously or even better :P

Their ratings are surely not spectacular but still stable and their popularity can't be based on tv ratings. I find pretty obvious that the ratings are very influenced by the guests,if not only Arashi fans would watch them with how Himitsu as become.I can't believe someone can't find a way to make Himitsu interesting as it was some times ago,the relaxed mode of Share House is cute but if the guest is someone like Kimura Tae in the last ep,it becomes seriously boring,they must find a way to make it more entertaining.

Apart from all this,the fact that this article came out just before Arafes makes me lolling XDD

I hope they don't place all the blame on arashi re the decrease in ratings.
Honestly, i haven't been watching VS Arashi or ANShi lately (unless the guests are interesting), not because i don't like arashi anymore but the shows' format is painfully boring or is too familiar already. If HNA didn't introduce arashi share house, i may not be watching it either ^^;
Let's face it, what people want to see is when arashi is themselves (read : dorky but warm boys just having fun)
Should they return to having midnight shows done in some dark basement, I would rather watch these as long as they do interesting stuff like what they did on CxDxG No Arashi.
I would rather want them have interaction with unknown obachans and ojichans again or cook for kids for a day.
Arashi having declining popularity? Good news for the older fans who had always been supporting them. . .More chance of getting concert tickets and arashi goods!
And probably chance for them to hold concerts outside of japan again ^_~ c'mon boys, a lot of your foreign fans can't get enough of you! I have always believed, should they not had AAA concerts before in 2006 & 2008, they may have just been taken for granted until now.
