I was surprised at his acting in ep 01 but I think he absolutely shined in ep 02, though I can see why he'd find it very embarrassing to watch - it's so unlike him. ^_~ On the other hand - Toma, or at least his character is greatly pissing me off -.-;

A lot of the best dramas (Kdramas and Jdramas both) are underrated.

But they usually develop a rabid cult following that is loyal 'til death so no worries. ^_~

I think Maou is on at the same time at two other really popular shows (I've forgotten which, I just remember that it were two and that they were popular), so I think 12% isn't all that bad. A lot of dramas seem to be around the 12% mark, with some over it (around 17%, like Yamada Tarou) and some under it (something along >10%) and a very few very high (KimuTaku dramas in general, Last Friends and, by some freakish accident, Gokusen 3). Considering that it's an adaption of a k-drama (which means that a lot of people probably already know the story) and that at least one of the actors is unexperienced as a drama actor, 12 to 14 percent isn't really bad!

My main worry was that it would have a rating under 10 percent in the first episode, because I think that would have made Ohno feel bad about his acting. (Or perhaps not, seeing as he seems to think fishing more interesting that shooting a drama. XD)

Off topic but Gokusen 3 got a rating of around 17%???!!!! That's like really bizarre!!!!

I don't expect Maou to get a high ratings as Kimutaku's drama like Hero etc. I was pretty pleased when Maou got 14% for the first episode but i have to admit that i feel a bit gutted when it decreased in episode 2 T_____T I expected it to get a higher rating by each episode. I agree with the remake part. It's because it's a remake, that's why it lacks of suspense, IMO because we already know who's the evil mastermind behind all the deaths. When i first watched Mawang, it was really fun guessing who's the devil. At around episode 16 or so, when i knew it was the lawyer, i stopped watching it because my interest kinda died.. hahahaha..

I'm watching this (Maou) because of Oh-chan. Solely because of Oh-chan. He did great as i expected him to be and i'm satisfied. That's all that matters right now :)

O___________O;;

I-i don't really care about the ratings so much. All i care about is Oh-chan. He's an excellent actor and i know it. But the fact that the ratings decrease in the 2nd episode is quite disheartening to know. It feels like the drama didn't do justice to Oh-chan's brilliant acting... I pray that it shoots up in the third episode though.

I don't care about the ratings as long as Ohno doesn't care about it. But then, I think he does... so... I care about it now... *thinks* yeah.

Thanks for the info on ratings.

I'm just curious where you're getting your rating information from. I have no clue how Japanese TV ratings work, but I saw this clip on YouTube, and it said that Maou got a 17.1% rating for the first episode that aired on July 4th. First off, I don't speak Japanese at all so I don't know what they're saying, and I don't know what show this is, or if it's regional ratings vs. national ratings, etc.

Here's the link if someone wants to go see (and hopefully translate). The rating shows up at about 1:11: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nOptfykUAcA

The show is called "King's Brunch" and it ranks the highest rating per minute (how do you call it in English? In Japanese we call it Instant rating). obviously people tune in and out of programs, and so the rating fluctuates within the hour. so ya the highest rating per minute was 17.1% for Maou, but overall it was 12.6%.
but i read that probably the reason for this drop was because a studio ghibli film "Gedo Senki" was airing on a different channel at the same time. Some drama (the one with Takashi Sorimachi) halved this week compared to last probably because of "Gedo Senki", so I'm thinking Oh-chan is still doing well!

Yep to be more precise, the 17.1% rating was referring to the moment Maou started.

oh ya i didn't realize, 17.1% is for the rating on 4th july when the overall was 14%, not the 11th.

Yeah the 17.1% was the rating for the very first minute when Maou had started. Oh-chan's powerful performance....
