[MOD] Comm check-up time

Okay, so. It's been over a year since I took up modding here, and I wanted to check in with everyone here, see if you're happy with the community. We're not going to turn into some democratic comm where everything little thing has to be decided by voting, but I thought I'd open up the floor for at least a little feedback about the way things are run. :3

Annoyed at the amount of crossposting? Want something to be done with the number of youtube/uploads/graphics/etc. posts? Think there are tags that should be added? Want to see a new layout for the community? If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions about this community and how it's being run/should be run, now is your chance to voice them!

just a minor issue~ when i am searching for either headers or fo banners they are quite hard to find when searching under "fanmade: other", so if possible, could their maybe be some more tags for them? (for example, "fanmade: headers" and/or "fanmade: friends only banners")

other than that, everything is perfect! keep up the awesome work~ :D

I took a look at the "fanmade: other" tag just now, and it seems like most of the posts under that tag are wallpapers and fanart. So maybe I'll just add three instead, with an additional tag for "fanmade: headers/banners". :) Thanks for letting me know!

I agree about the new layout, it´ll be nice but other than that I´m only gratefull ^^, I love this community and there is so many stuff in here that make it impossible not checking it daily XD, Thank you very much for your hard work.

Well, I'm a pretty new member of this community, but I like it very much. Actually this is my favourite JE lj comm and I don't think there're things that should be changed.
But as everyone, I'd like to see a new layout. Something with a more lively colour, if possible.

Mmm... No real complaints about the way things are run here and all.
I'm just very tired of the endless icon posts that appear (there was once I counted more than 4 icon posts in a single day). But then I know nothing much can be done about that (unless you have a brilliant idea that hasn't occurred to me yet ^^ ). eheh

Anyway, good job so far! :D

As someone who isn't very interested in graphics in general, it gets tiring to have to scroll past so many icon/graphics posts everyday too. :/ I kind of wish someone would make a community solely for Arashi graphics (like there is an Arashi-specific community for fanfiction) so I can ban it from here entirely and direct all the posts over there instead.

Personally, I don't have a thing against wallpaper posts - those don't appear so often. It's just the icon posts that bug me because they seem to appear every single day without fail. And more than once a day too sometimes. @___@

(And I can't exactly be complaining about wallpaper posts since I make some myself ^^; ..although I do limit myself to one post a month, if any, rather than posting every time I make a new wallpaper.)

I think cross-posted icon (and download) posts were the reason why I never joined any other Arashi comm and just stuck to this one. hehe

I'm pretty happy with the way things are!

My only suggestions would be whilst I love having arashi pics to look at, some few cases the preview images are really big on some posts.

Cross posting: Sometimes I'll get like 5 entries of the same thing because I'm a member of lots of arashi communities but I don't know if there's much you can do about it though. This is not really huge problems for me (because I guess can always skip those) but it would be nice if there was less.

That's a good point, actually-- maybe I can limit preview images to a maximum of 400px in width? I'm not sure how wide most people's layouts are, but 400px should be good for the community as it is now; any wider than the community layout would definitely be too big.

Yeah, the crossposting was precisely the reason why I defriended most of those communities in the first place. But now that I don't see five entries of the same things anymore, it's hard to gauge if someone had been crossposting and how many posts they had made. :/

It's a tough one, but I'll try to at least give it some thought. Thanks!

A standard preview image size would be great! I think anywhere between 350 - 400 is good to me.

Crossposting: Maybe as discussed below is to restrict posting of icons. Or maybe do a kind of 'master' post once a week. People link their icons in the comments with previews there. So for people hunting down icons can check there. Maybe it's troublesome I don't know.

I was thinking about discussions posts. I haven't really seen any in this community yet but I think it would be great to maybe have a weekly one to generate some chat and community spirit! Or perhaps a post for things like their weekly shows after they air. Just an idea.

Cross-posting is always my biggest issue with communities, but like other people said I have no idea how you as a mod deal with that since you only control this community. The only thing I can think of to help is something I'm not sure would be too popular - maybe not allowing certain things to be post here? It's worked really well with fanfiction. When I had the K8 community friended, I used to get totally spammed by people posting their fanfics in the K8 com AND jent_fanfics. Since this com doesn't allow fanfiction, I only see the Arashi fics once in the place that they should be post. Maybe something like that would work with graphics/icons as well? The community arashi_icon_luv or jpopicons would be great for icons, and those are the places I see cross-post too the most. Unfortunately though, I don't know of an Arashi-only general graphics community (since I'm sure some people don't want to be spammed with graphics of every single JE group).

Hmm... I mentioned this to someone else on this post already, but I kind of wish someone would make a community specifically for Arashi-only graphics to be posted to, so I'd at least have a place to direct people to if I ever do ban graphics from the community.

Personally, I think having this community as a place for news/information, translations, downloads (scans and video) and the occasional discussion should be fine, since there are so many other communities for other things and it would cut down on at least a bit of the crossposting that goes on. Maybe something similar to jone_records, but more lax and with posting allowed by all members? I don't know, I'll definitely think about it some more. Thanks for your input!

I wouldn't mind making an Arashi graphics community, as long as one doesn't already exist that I hadn't noticed. I don't imagine it would require much work, if I could find someone as a co-moderator in charge of making layouts and that sort of thing. If it could cut down on crossposting and allow things to be more organized, it's worth the small amount of moderation :)

I just looked at the jone_records community, and they have some really great ideas. Some of their rules are a little overboard (not allowing people to link to outside journals, no translations but their own), but some things from there that I would love to see here are:

o No multiple posts containing the same file. If Person A uploads AnS #95 only to MF, Person B could reply to Person A's post with a link to the file on MU, then it would all be in one post and cut on spamming.

o No font/font size/font color changing, limit on size/number of preview graphics. (Maybe we already have this rule and I forgot XD)

o No blog crew/rpg/meme(of anykind, not just hate/love)/fanworks (if a graphics journal is made)/

o No rumors (i.e. any information that doesn't have a reliable source. It would be hard to define that for scandals, but maybe if there's no photo, don't post?)

o Limits on requests. I like how they have a weekly request thread, I think something like that would be good for this com to eliminate on a lot of this "can I have this song? *day later* oh this one too? *five minutes later* and all their albums?" posts that have shown up lately.

Oh! Durr, I just found one. --> storm_graphics I'll definitely think about it then, because that does make things a lot easier. XD

- A problem I can think of off the top of my head with regards to multiple posts with the same file is that sometimes people share more than one file in the same entry, one or more of which may not have been shared yet. It's tempting though, and it is rather unncessary to have so many posts with the same uploads all the time.

- We don't have the size limit rule yet, no, but I was just mentioning to another comment on this post that maybe I'll set a 400px limit for the width of preview images. I probably won't do anything about the fonts though, since in general I do let them slide unless they're overly blinding or in-your-face. XD It's less work, and people don't get too annoyed about the nazi modding.

- Definitely tempted to put in that rule. I think fanart should be allowed in the community still since there isn't a large amount of them to the point of annoying, but other than that it does sound pretty good. :)

- Personally, I don't mind rumours as long as they're tagged appropriately. Rumours are a part of any fandom, and sometimes it's better to hear (and laugh) about them in the open (hopefully with levelheaded fans who could refute them!) than letting it spread unchecked amongst friends.

- I'll probably put in that rule about requests, though in general the amount of requests made in this community is pretty low, which is definitely a good thing. XD

Oh, you're right, I didn't think of that. Maybe just asking people to check the tags before uploading or to try and consolidate as much as possible would be better, rather than making an actual rule.

I'm personally not a big fan of rumors, but I can understand why other people get a kick out of them. Since that's never been a big deal in this community though, I was thinking more of information without reliable sources. For instance, the recent messages to the fanclub, or fake tracklistings to singles/albums (eg "Green" being the b-side to truth).
