Why are they called "Yama-pair"?

I'm not even an Arashi fan and I know that Yamada Tarou had Sho and Nino.

Sho and Ohno are the two oldest in the band. The kanji for Arashi, 嵐 is made of two radicals:

山, yama, and under that, 風, kaze. As Sho and Ohno are the oldest and "top", they are the "yama" radical in the kanji, and therefore the Yama Pair.

嵐 = 山 (yama) + 風 (kaze). People use 山 to label Sho and Ohno as they are older and thus "above" the other three. Hope that helps!

Agree with what the people above have said. The first time I've encountered the "Yama pair" thing was when the HeyHeyHey guys made a joke upon it, so it might stem from that.

Actually the Yama & Kaze nick had been going on since they were formed. There was a rumor that Arashi was suppose to be split up in two ala V6 ("20th Century" and "Coming Century")

Ah, so that's it!
I wonder whether the Heyx3 guys were making a reference to that...? Though I would have thought that the rumour must have really been pretty far-fetched, as I believe that Arashi would have made a split a bit more difficult than V6, since they don't have the large age-gap that V6 has and since at the time they were formed, everyone but Ohno was still in school, meaning they couldn't have formed a unit that would have been able to concentrate more on their careers (like 20th Century).

^ *LOL* i didn't even know that V6 is splitted into 2 xD~ and i didn't know about why Sho >< Ohno are named Yama pair either.. thanx for everyone who has given the info *^^* so the other 3 are the kaze trio then? (O.o)
