Yes, I had the same problem...

I guess they want you to work your way thru the book?
You know, "Life is Hard dakara happy"?
It took me an hour, armed with a penknife to get all the pages separated...
This book requires A LOT of patience!!!
And yes, occasionally there will be a TINY rip here and there once you get tired of slicing your way through the pages for half an hour straight..

I can't believe I could get annoyed by an Arashi photobook... XDDD

Eh? Which book is this? Pikanchi A-Z or Work is Hard Dakedo Happy?

I used my x-acto knife, I was so pissed by the end of it. And some pages will have a tiny rip no matter how careful you are. Good luck!

lol i thought mine was a defect. XD then i saw all the ones in the store and thought they just got a bad shipment or something. yeah, ive been using a round edge (like a pen) to go through the pages. getting little tears suck, though.

ISN'T THAT THE MOST ANNOYING FEATURE EVER? I have no idea what the point was.

I carefully opened each page by hand - I was afraid if I used a knife or any other kind of tool my hand would slip and rip up half the page. Luckily though most of the places where the edges are bound have a whtie boundary, so even if you make a tiny rip you won't ruin the part of the page that actually had a picture on it. Be prepared for it to take ages =/

Sorry, as far as I can tell, there is no trick :/ You just have to go through each page, as carefully as possible. It's probably to support the title (Work is hard, dakedo happy) but seriously, the designers could have come up with a better plan XDD Good luck! I know I tore like at least 5 pages through to the picture and I was uber mad. But they weren't like detrimental.

Same as everyone else, I got through mine with a large kitchen knife, actually, and ended up with two small tears. It's a publisher's flaw; almost all books, before they are properly trimmed, look like that at some point in the binding process. Ideally, those perforated edges are cut off when they cut the book itself. There was obviously some sort of problem with the way the cutter was aligned for these books.

If I had gotten the book from a US publisher, I would have taken it back and exchanged it. I decided I would rather cut it open myself than ship it back to Japan, though, and reading this makes me glad I decided that -- looks like all the books were like this.

Dont attempt using fingers or pencils. They will rip the pages easily.
I use a penknife. You will need a whole lot of patience.

Worse design ever. XD

XDD Hahah uugghh, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who suffered from this. I think I only got through opening through half of the pages since I got so frustrated and I kept ripping the pages no matter how careful I was trying to be.

Good luck with getting yours open!

ACTUALLY, this is not a publisher's flaw. It's a genuine (albiet stupid, in this day and age) publishing technique. I can't remember the name for it, but most very expensive high-class books are published like this, as it gives the reader a sense of being the very first person to touch the pages; you opened them yourself. The idea is to create an intimacy between the reader and each book.

Back in the old days, all books were like that. Nowadays, people do it to be ~fancy~. My publishing team thought it was pretty dumb if you had more than 8 pages. XD

LOL OK, I thought I was the only one weirded out by the design. I ripped through one with my finger and ripped it...so I'll be using a razor blade for the rest whenever I find myself that bored. xD Good luck with your book as well!

Oh man, I was thinking of getting that photobook you're talking about. I bought the A to Z one, and that one is wrapped around one long sheet of cover, so you have to unroll it i guess.

I opened every page of it with a rule in order to keep it from damage.
But I didn't get annoyed, I stared at every page i opened with so much delight, I had a very nice moment. Especially since Sho is in the end, i couldn't get bothered by the last pages XD

yeah, i was really annoyed at first, because i wasnt using a penknife and i kept getting nasty (though tiny) rips that messed up the pictures. but when i started using the penknife and took my time the pages came out beautifully. i was smiling after each page opened up for me and i could see it fully, versus peeking through the seams. totally giving meaning to its name "work is hard but happy" :)

It's hard but definitely easier than waking up Ohno.

I gave up when I reached the thirtieth page. But yeah, it's worth of trying.

I got this book from yesasia about 2 months back, saw the condition, and send it back to them, asking for an exchange.
Yesasia checked and got back to me that all books are in similar condition.
I decided to get a refund since it's too tedious opening the pages one by one.
But i did managed to take a peep at all the photos before sending it back to yesasia. haha~

same for me!!
I just thought it was a defected, so I send back and ask for the refund...
so, now, I'm kind of pissed hearing that THAT is the normal one...
Argh and I even started cutting the first..uhm 30 pages, then it was too stressful.
What a pity.
